Local businesses to be at forefront of low-carbon construction at Hole Farm
National Highways have a commitment to use local SMEs from within 20 miles of the project

20 Mar 2024National Highways and its Delivery Partner Balfour Beatty, hosted a supply chain networking event for local small and medium-sized enterprises to prepare them to bid for work on the Hole Farm Community Woodland.
The event gave them an insight into the procurement process and the minimum requirements that suppliers must meet, and an outline of the various work packages that will be available.
The Lower Thames Crossing is designed to be the greenest road ever built in the UK and will explore ways of pushing the boundaries of carbon neutral construction. Hole Farm will test these methods by being a diesel-free project, as hydrogen, electric, and other low-carbon fuels will be used to power the machinery and equipment used in construction.
Hole Farm community woodland is a 100-hectare site in Brentwood, Essex which, in partnership with Forestry England, will be transformed into a space for the local community to use.

Construction of new facilities including a café, community room, visitors centre and car park is expected to start in summer 2024 and will be open to the public in summer 2025.
