We’re looking at ways to carry out essential maintenance on eight bridges spanning the M6 in Cumbria.

M6 junction 10 congestion affects the local community and businesses, particularly during morning and evening peak times. The improvements will ease congestion and reduce journey times for the thousands of drivers who use it every day.

The bridge near Penrith that carries the M6 over the River Lowther needs extensive repairs. A major renovation project is underway to ensure the longevity of the structure for many years to come.

Network Rail is replacing the existing bridge that carries the West Coast Main Line over the M6, between junction 39 and 40 near Penrith in Cumbria.

This scheme will provide an improved link between the M54 and the M6. Currently, there's no direct motorway link from the M54 to the M6 north. This means high volumes of both long distance and local traffic use the local roads to travel this route.

Overnight maintenance around one of Merseyside’s busiest motorway junctions is taking place this month as part of a £390,000 project.

We're improving the 10-mile section of the M6 between junctions 21a and 26, by upgrading it to an all-lane running motorway. This will provide increased capacity in a cost-effective way, maximising the use of the existing road.
