Our community trees programme

Working in partnership to deliver a greener future

We've teamed up with Greenwood Plants and The Tree Council to make it easier than ever for charities, landowners and community groups to access high‑quality, UK‑grown native trees. This partnership model unlocks specialist expertise, strong local networks and the right growing conditions, ensuring every donated tree is planted where it can best thrive.

Our tree supply: native, peat‑free and chosen for local impact

Every donated tree is an English native species grown from British‑sourced seed in peat‑free soils, boosting local biodiversity and supporting more resilient habitats. Most trees are supplied as bareroot seedlings, a sustainable approach that makes them easier to transport, quicker to plant and more likely to establish successfully.

Planting where it matters most

Our focus is on planting trees in locations where they will have the biggest impact, whether enhancing local green spaces, supporting nature recovery or bringing communities together. We encourage high‑quality applications from organisations who share our ambition to deliver long‑lasting community and environmental benefits.

Across the country, our donated trees are already transforming community spaces, from school tree nurseries to local green corridors.

Woodrush School in Birmingham is one example: students are planting hedgerows and shelterbelts, gaining horticultural skills and taking pride in nature on their doorstep. The school has previously planted hedgerow and shelterbelts to create a community tree nursery and willow enterprise. This enterprise is part of this school’s remarkable ability to introduce students to green careers. Students can work towards a City & Guilds Horticulture qualification and the school offers an extracurricular gardening club.

About the partnership

The Tree Council is the national charity that brings everyone together to plant and care for trees throughout the UK. It's helping us to gift the trees to places where they can have the most impact.

Greenwood Plants is one of the UK’s largest growers for the commercial sector. They will help us to grow millions of native trees from seed over a five-year period.

This partnership means we can work together to plant trees in locations where they will thrive and provide the most benefit for biodiversity, carbon and communities.

All the trees we’re donating come from Greenwood Plant’s supply of native trees from a variety of native and climate resilient species.

Native species, including Holly, Scots Pine, Oak, Rowan and Beech, will be grown peat-free at West Sussex and Cheshire nurseries. We've chosen trees that will provide seasonal interest through the year and blend well with surrounding natural environments.

Most trees will be supplied as two-year-old seedlings with exposed roots (no soil attached). These 'bareroot' seedlings are easier to transport and quicker to plant and establish. We'll plant them between November and March.

Planting trees supports the UK Government tree planting targets, and our own aim to protect and strengthen the natural environment and community wellbeing.
