M23 Junction 9 and Airport Way near Gatwick resurfacing
We're continuing essential resurfacing at the M23 junction 9 roundabout and Airport Way, near Gatwick Airport, Horley.
Closures
For safety, we need overnight closures of the M23 junction 9 roundabout, including the slip roads and Airport Way.
To limit disruption as much as possible, we're working overnight, Monday to Friday nights only (9pm to 5am).
We completed the first phases of our work in January and February, with a further two phases to follow.
Wednesday 23 April for one night
A23 northbound slip road closed from the north terminal roundabout. The north terminal roundabout will remain open.
Diversion for traffic joining the A23 northbound from the north terminal roundabout
You'll be diverted:
- eastbound along A23 towards south terminal roundabout
- turn back around and head westbound along A23, back to north terminal roundabout
- take the Gatwick Way exit
- turn left at Perimeter Road North
- join London Road for A23
Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.
Bridge repair works between M23 junction 10a Crawley and junction 11 Pease Pottage
Our work includes:
- replacing bearings underneath the bridge
- replacing expansion joints in the carriageway and verges
While we work, we'll impose a 50mph speed restriction, reducing to 40mph near the bridge. These speed limits are enforceable.
We'll do most work using narrow lanes and a hard shoulder closure, but we'll need some overnight closures.

Overview
This is essential resurfacing work and also includes maintenance, such as gulley cleaning for better drainage and litter picking.
Benefits
The bridge repairs will include replacing the bearings underneath the structure and replacing the expansion joints in the carriageway and verges. These joints allow for the continuous flow of traffic across the bridge and the expansion and contraction of the bridge decks, caused by the weather’s temperature variations. This work will increase the bridge’s lifespan.
