A3 works between Petersfield and Horndean

  Upcoming traffic management for bridge work

  We'll be carrying out a set of three bridge joint replacement/repair works on the A3 in the Petersfield area soon. For safety, the works will need overnight closures of sections of the carriageway as follows:

  • Overnight full closures of the A3 southbound carriageway between Berelands interchange and Weston interchange, south of Petersfield, Wednesday 6 November to Friday 8 November, 9pm to 6am (three nights). These closures are also for resurfacing work at the bridge.
  • Overnight closures on the A3 northbound carriageway between Horndean and Petersfield, weeknights only, Monday 11 November to Wednesday 20 November. This work will also include refreshing road markings. 
  • Overnight closures of A3 Sheet interchange overbridge only, north of Petersfield, 9pm to 6am, Monday 25 November to Thursday 28 November and Monday 2 December to Tuesday 3 December (six nights). These closures are also for resurfacing work at the bridge.

  Diversion routes

  Berelands/Weston interchanges

  Exit the A3 at the Berelands interchange, take the A3 north to the Sheet interchange (or exit at the Sheet interchange). A272, then follow the B2070: Ramshill, Tor Way, Dragon Street, The Causeway and rejoin the A3 southbound.

  Horndean/Petersfield

  A27/M27, A32 Wickham Road towards West Meon Hut, A272 East to Berelands interchange at Petersfield, where you can rejoin the A3 northbound.

  Sheet interchange overbridge

  Northbound exit slip diversion – Continue on A3 Northbound to Liss interchange and return to Sheet Link interchange southbound exit slip.

  Southbound entry slip and northbound entry slip diversion – Follow B2070 from London Road roundabout as follows: Ramshill, Tor Way, College Street, then use Station Road, Winchester Road and rejoin the A3 southbound at Berelands interchange.

  A3 southbound at Petersfield resurfacing

  There is a second weekend closure of the A3 southbound carriageway which starts on Friday 25 October.

  The southbound carriageway of the A3 will be closed between Petersfield (junction with the A272) and Horndean (A3M junction 2, Hazelton Interchange with B2149) from 9pm on Friday, 25 October until 6am on Monday, 28 October for essential resurfacing work. A signed diversion will be place. 

  The northbound carriageway of the A3 will remain open. 

  There will then be a series of overnight weeknight closures from Monday 28 October to Tuesday 5 November 9pm to 6am (Monday to Friday working only)  

  Diversion route  

  The diversion route will be via the A272 west towards West Meon Hut, A32 south towards Fareham, A27 east through Porchester & Cosham, and A3 London Rd/Portsmouth Rd north via Purbrook, Waterlooville and Cowplain to A3M Junction 2.

  Maintaining safety and improving journeys

  We'll be working between the Berelands Interchange and the A3M junction (near Waterlooville).

  We'll need full weekend and overnight closures on the southbound A3 between Petersfield and Waterlooville.

  Full weekend closures:

  • 9pm Friday 11 October to 6am Monday 14 October
  • 9pm Friday 25 October to 6am Monday 28 October

  Overnight closures:

  Monday 28 October to Tuesday 5 November 9pm to 6am.

  Monday to Friday working only.

  Diversion:

  Traffic will be diverted by:

  • A272, A32, A27 Porchester
  • A3 Purbrook, Waterlooville, Cowplain to join the A3M at junction 2
