    Overnight closures

    We’ve completed the removal of the two footbridges and are ready to install the 24/7 lane one closure on the A259.

    To install the 24/7 lane one closure safely we’ll need to close the A259 in both directions overnight between the hours of 8pm to 6am on:

    • Wednesday 24 September for three nights
    • Monday 29 September for two nights

    Weekend footbridge closure rescheduled

    Work to remove the footbridge this weekend has been postponed, whilst we continue to engage with local residents and businesses.

    The full weekend closure to the A259 in both directions between the junctions with the A269 will now take place Friday 12 to Monday 15 September (8pm-6am).

    Footbridge replacements set to begin over A259 in Bexhill-on-Sea

    The first footbridge connects Lychgates Close and Church Street and the second footbridge connects Hastings Road, over A259 King Offa Way. 

    During the works there will be a 24/7 lane closure in both directions on the A259. There will also be overnight carriageway closures, and we’ll need to close both carriageways over two full weekends.  

    Whilst the footbridges are being replaced there will be pedestrian diversion routes. 

    Phase one - Removal of footbridges 

    Full weekend closure to the A259 in both directions between the junctions with the A269.   

    • Friday 5 September (8pm) to Monday 8 September (6am)  
    Phase two - Installation of lane one closure  

    Overnight closure to the A259 in both directions  

    • Monday 8 September (for four nights)   
    Phase three - Installation of footbridges 

    Full weekend closure to the A259 in both directions between the junctions with the A269.    

    • Friday 28 November (8pm) to Monday 1 December (6am)
