Youth Ambassador Forum

Through the Youth Ambassador Forum we will work with local young people to understand and represent the views and needs of young people in the local communities

What is the Lower Thames Crossing Youth Ambassador Forum?

The Youth Ambassador Forum is made up of a group of local young people who are studying construction and engineering related courses that we will work with over the course of an academic year to represent the views and needs of young people in their communities.

The aims of the forum are:

  • To inspire the next generation of industry specialists
  • To create a lasting skills legacy in the local community through pre-employment training, networking, mentoring and exposure to the working environment on major projects
  • To provide a platform for a youth voice on the project with local young people providing valuable insights and feedback on our plans
  • To help us shape the project in a way that leaves a positive lasting legacy in the local community

Youth Ambassador Forum launch event

We launched the Lower Thames Crossing Youth Ambassador Forum last Autumn at our site office in Chafford Hundred. It was attended by eight students from four local colleges. The day consisted of talks and activities lead by various members of the team, including our delivery partners, from apprentices through to senior leadership.

During the launch event there were various presentations which covered:

  • Inspiring Career Journeys: We heard from the Tunnels and Approaches Technical Director (BMJV) and the Head of Health and Safety Strategy and Insight (National Highways) who shared their career paths and insights in their journeys.
  • Apprentice Success Story: A recently qualified apprentice spoke about the application process and shared their exciting early career.
  • A Day in the Life: Balfour Beatty site engineers provided a captivating look into their daily roles and responsibilities on the project.

The afternoon session was interactive and focussed on:

Office tour: A behind-the-scenes look at our workspace and meeting with various team members, including our newest fury addition – Noodle!

CV writing & review: Received expert advice and personalised feedback on CVs from our Head of People, ensuring everyone is ready to shine in their job applications.

Resources review: Explored the exciting GoConstruct Kinex resources that are used to inspire and engage the next generation.

"I really enjoyed the talks during the morning session as they were very inspirational and in the afternoon the workshop helped me with improving my CV. The best part of the day was using the Virtual Reality headsets!"

"The launch event was full of inspiring stories and engaging activities that helped us to get to know our Youth Ambassadors. It was moving to see how engaged and curious these local young people are and to see different personalities shine during the various activities throughout the day. We are continuing to support our Youth Ambassadors with their career ambitions and are taking onboard their feedback. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of local young people into the Forum in the next academic year! "
