    Essential resurfacing continues

    Essential overnight resurfacing is continuing at the M23 junction 9 roundabout and Airport Way, near Gatwick Airport, Horley. 

    For safety, there will be overnight closures of the M23 junction 9 roundabout, including the slip roads, and Airport Way. 

    To limit disruption as much as possible, the work is being done overnight, Monday to Friday nights only (9pm to 5am). 

    The first three phases of work were completed from January to mid-February, with a further four phases to follow. 

    Phase 4a

    • Airport Way eastbound closure and A23 westbound exit slip road closure
    • Monday 24 February for two nights (9pm to 5am)

    The north terminal roundabout will remain open.

    Phase 4a diversion route 1

    North terminal traffic wishing to head eastbound towards south terminal and M23 J9 will be diverted via:

    • A23 northbound London Road to turn around at Longbridge roundabout to rejoin the A23 London Road southbound
    • exit at London Road eastbound slip road for South terminal and M23 J9

    Phase 4a diversion route 2

    A23 northbound traffic wishing to head towards north terminal will be diverted via:

    • A23 northbound London Road to turn around at Longbridge roundabout to rejoin the A23 London Road southbound
    • exit at London Road eastbound slip road for south terminal roundabout
    • follow the roundabout around to head towards the north terminal

    Phase 4b 

    • North terminal roundabout closure, Airport Way eastbound closure and A23 westbound exit slip road closure
    • Wednesday 26 February for three nights (9pm to 5am). 

    The north terminal roundabout will be closed. Gatwick Way, north terminal approach and A23 northbound slip road will remain open.

    4b diversion route 1 

    North terminal traffic wishing to head eastbound towards south terminal and M23 J9 will be diverted via:

    • the A23 northbound London Road, to turn around at Longbridge roundabout to rejoin the A23 London Road southbound
    • then exit at London Road eastbound slip road for south terminal and M23 J9

    4b diversion route 2

    A23 northbound traffic wishing to head towards north terminal will be diverted via:

    • the A23 northbound London Road, to turn around at Longbridge roundabout to rejoin the A23 London Road southbound
    • exit at London Road eastbound slip road for south terminal roundabout 
    • then follow the roundabout around to head towards the north terminal

    4b diversion route 3

    Westbound airport way traffic wishing to join the A23 London Road will be diverted via:

    • Gatwick way, Perimeter Road, then left onto A23 London Road

    Phase 4c

    Airport Way eastbound closure and A23 westbound exit slip road closure, from Monday 3 March for three nights (9pm to 5am)

    The north terminal roundabout will remain open.

    4c diversion route 

    Follow the same diversion as Phase 4a.

    Phase five

    Airport Way eastbound and A23 eastbound exit slip road will be closed from Thursday 6 March for 10 nights.

    5 diversion route 1

    North terminal traffic wishing to head eastbound towards south terminal and M23 J9 will be diverted via:

    • A23 northbound London Road, to turn around at Longbridge roundabout to rejoin the A23 London Road southbound
    • A2011 to join the M23 at junction 10 and then head northbound on M23 for J9

    5 diversion 2

    London Road A23 southbound traffic wishing to head eastbound towards south terminal will continue on:

    • A23 London Road southbound
    • A2011 to join the M23 at junction 10
    • head northbound on M23 for J9

Overview

This is essential resurfacing work and also includes maintenance, such as gulley cleaning for better drainage and litter picking. 

The resurfacing will reduce the need for small-scale, disruptive repairs.
