Archaeologists discovered a whole host of rare finds along the A1 in Yorkshire.

We’ve completed a number of upgrades to the A1 between the Black Cat roundabout just south of St Neots and Biggleswade in Bedfordshire over the last few years. In September 2024, we'll be doing some final maintenance work to signs and resurfacing.

This section of the A1 suffers congestion, particularly during peak hours, which can result in unreliable journey times. Traffic is also expected to grow with new housing and employment developments planned for the area. Road improvements are needed to support this growth.

The A1 is one of the country's longest roads, connecting London and Edinburgh. The route currently consists of motorway and dual carriageways, with some sections of single carriageway between Morpeth and Ellingham.

We’re installing a new noise barrier on the A1 near Eaton Ford.

We’re increasing the current two lanes of the A1 in each direction to three lanes between Scotswood and North Brunton.

Following several reactive repairs, we plan to carry out inspections and resurfacing on Wentbridge Viaduct and a pier replacement on Wentedge Road Bridge. This work is substantial and is likely to cause disruption to customers travelling on the A1.
