We’ve improved a 23-mile section of the M1 between junctions 13 and 16 by upgrading it to an All-Lane Running (ALR) motorway to support economic growth and ease congestion in the area.

The M40/M42 interchange is frequently congested at peak times, affecting both local journeys and long distance traffic between London and Scotland. Major new developments in Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country will also increase demand on the junction.
