M62 Scammonden Bridge parapet replacement
We’re replacing the existing aluminium parapet on Scammonden Bridge with a new steel parapet. We'll start work on 20 April 2026 and expect to finish in October 2026.
Scammonden Bridge carries the B6114 over the M62 between junctions 23 (Outlane) and 22 (Rockingstone Moss) in Calderdale. It's also known as Rainbow Bridge.
Our upgrades are vital to the long term safety and integrity of this structure.
How we'll work
We'll need to fully close the M62 in both directions between junctions 22 and 24 (Ainley Top) while we work.
We have to close the road to protect both road users and our workforce.
Closures will be overnight (8pm-6am) Monday to Friday on these dates:
Closure 1
12 May 2026 - 27 May 2026
Closure 2
19 June 2026 - 9 July 2026
Closure 3
6 August 2026 - 25 August 2026
Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England site. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.
Diversion
If you're driving eastbound:
- leave the M62 at junction 22
- the take the A672, A58, A646 and A629
- re-join the M62 at junction 24 (Ainley Top)
If you're travelling westbound, follow this route in the opposite direction

B6114 bridge closure
Due to the narrow width of Scammonden Bridge, we'll also need to close the B6114 over the bridge for six months.
Lane closures alone wouldn't give us a safe working area.
We apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience while we complete this essential safety work.
