Works update and upcoming slip road closures
We’re getting ready to start our essential repairs to St Georges Bridge. The bridge carries the M5 over the railway near junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare.
We’re starting with repairs to the bridge from underneath the motorway. The M5 will be open as usual during this phase.
Upcoming overnight slip road closures
We will be carrying out survey works and repairs to the barriers on the M5 at junction 21, Weston super Mare.
We will be closing the southbound entry slip road, as well as the northbound exit slip road at junction 21.
The closure will take place on:
- Monday 18 November from 10pm until 6am.
Diversion
A well signed diversion route will be in place via junction 20 of the M5.
The motorway will remain open throughout.
Temporary access roads
We’re setting up two temporary access roads to the east of the motorway. This will allow us to safely get people and equipment under the bridge.
One temporary access road runs from the end of Station Road along the route of the M5 up to the railway line. This access road is now complete.
Another will be to the north of the railway, and come off Wick Road. Works on this temporary access road started in October and is due to be completed in December.
The temporary roads will remain in place until we finish our work under the bridge. The areas will then be reinstated to their current condition.
Site compound
Our site compound to the south of the A370 at the junction with Silver Moor Lane, is now in use by the team. However, there are still some works taking place to finish the compound.
This area provides site offices, welfare facilities and space to store materials. The compound will remain until all our work is complete.
