    Resurfacing work coming up

    The following road closures are scheduled to take place:

    • Monday 14 to Monday 28 October: the westbound carriageway will be closed weeknights between junction 18 and 19 
    • Tuesday 29 to Wednesday 30 October: the westbound carriageway will be closed weeknights between junction 17 and 18

    To minimise disruption, work will usually take place weeknights, when there is less traffic, with closures between 8pm and 6am

    During the day, the motorway will be open as usual.

    Closures in September and October

    To minimise disruption, we usually work weeknights when there is less traffic, with closures between 8pm and 6am.

    During the day, the motorway will be open as usual.

    Closures

    Friday 20 September to Monday 14 October 

    Weeknight lane closures on the westbound M4 around junction 18, with the westbound entry slip closed. 

    Monday 14 to Monday 28 October

    Weeknight closure of the westbound carriageway between junction 18 and 19. 

    Please follow signed diversions rather than sat navs.

    Resurfacing Work in July and August 2024

    We plan to start work at end July. It will take us up to four months to complete. Our work will require some closures at various locations between now and late August.

    Closures can change at short notice.  Make sure you check the latest dates and times on our daily closures page. You can also get information on our regional X (formerly Twitter) page.

    To minimise disruption, work will usually take place weeknights, when there is less traffic, with closures between 8pm and 6am

    During the day, the motorway will be open as usual.

    M4 between junctions 17 and 18

    At least one lane will remain open in each direction.

    M4 Westbound carriageway between junction 17 and 18

    Full closure. A diversion will be in place via the A350, A420 and A46.

    At least one lane will remain open in each direction.

    Work begins later this month

    We plan to start work on Monday 29 July. It will take us up to four months to complete.

    To minimise disruption, this work will take place weeknights, when there is less traffic. 

    To work safely, we'll need to close the motorway and slip roads at various locations. Please remember that closure details can change at short notice. For the most up-to-date information on dates, times and locations, check our daily closures page.

    Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Please don't follow your satnav during any closure and check your journey before you travel.
