A46 package – Cold Ashton roundabout to London Road junction roundabout

We're investing almost £6million to improve the A46 north of Bath between London Road junction roundabout and Cold Ashton roundabout.

Start date 18 January 2026
End date Summer 2026
Cost £6million

Project information

The A46 is part of our south western strategic road network - a vital link between Bath and the M4.

It connects the south coast with Bristol, Bath and London, as well as carrying local traffic.

Our improvements will make journeys safer, smoother and more reliable. They'll also reduce the need for future unplanned closures.

This year, we have several essential schemes on the A46, split into three phases

Phase one - January to March 2026

Charmy Downs - ground investigation surveys and monitoring devices.

Hartley Bends - new, upgraded chevron signs.

Phase two

Four Winds Farm - drainage improvements.

Phase three

Hartley Bends - resurfacing .
