    Completing the connection

Following on from the successful ducting installation, we now need to complete the connection.

To do this safely, we will need further traffic management. This includes a hardshoulder and lane one closure in both directions between junctions 6 – 7 for a full weekend.

    Closures

    M3 junction 7 northbound on slip road - 8pm Friday 11 April to 10pm Saturday 12 April

    M3 junction 6 – 7 hardshoulder and lane one in both directions - 8pm Friday 11 April to 6am Monday 14 April

Road users wishing to join the M3 northbound carriageway at junction 7 will be diverted on to the southbound carriageway, take the A303 to turn around at Popham junction and then join the M3 northbound carriageway.

    Making the connection

We need to install ducting across the M3 in Basingstoke to connect a variable message sign on the southbound carriageway with our communications network point in the northbound verge.

We can then use the sign to inform road users travelling south on the M3 between the Black Dam and Dummer interchanges about any congestion, incidents or planned closures ahead.

For safety during this work, the motorway will be closed in both directions between junction 6 Black Dam and junction 7 Dummer interchanges from 9pm Friday 4 April to 6am Monday 7 April.

    Diversion

    • M3 junction 6 spur road
    • A30 Ringway South
    • A30 Winchester Road

Project information

Overview

We need to connect variable messaging signage with our communications network.

The project will enable us to connect to messaging signage. We can then alert road users on the M3 south of Basingstoke and the A303, travelling south west, of potential issues, such as delays ahead.
