Work starts soon on safety enhancement

We are replacing the vehicle safety barriers between M20 Junction 5, Aylesford Interchange, and Junction 6, Sandling Interchange, in Kent.

To do this safely, we will mainly need lane closures and to close the link “distributor” road that runs between junction 5 and 6.

First phase of work: eastbound carriageway

Tuesday 22 April to Monday 12 May

The hard shoulder will be closed 24/7 on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 5 to 6 and lane two closed on junction 5’s exit and entry slip road. We will also need close lanes one, two and three overnight on the M20 eastbound carriageway between junctions 5 to 6.

Tuesday 22 April and Wednesday 23 April

M20 eastbound Junction 5 exit slip road will be closed overnight.

    Diversion:

    • continue towards M20 junction 7
    • join back on M20 westbound via the roundabout
    • use westbound exits for junctions 6 and 5 to continue your journey

Tuesday 22 April and Wednesday 23 April

M20 eastbound junction 5 entry slip road will be closed overnight.

    Diversion:

    • join M20 westbound to junction 4 at Aylesford Interchange
    • re-join M20 eastbound

Tuesday 22 April and Wednesday 23 April

The eastbound link “distributor” road will be closed between junctions 5 and 6. The exit slip road will also be closed at junction 6.

    Diversion:

    • continue on the M20 to junction 7
    • join M20 westbound
    • use the westbound exits for junctions 6 and 5

Project information

Overview

The current safety barriers between M20 Junction 5 and Junction 6 need updating. The new ones will enhance road safety.

Replacing the vehicle safety barrier located in the verges in both directions between junctions 5 and 6 will enhance safety for road users. While traffic management is in place for this project, we will also do other essential work, such as cutting back vegetation and litter picking in the week starting Monday 5 May.
