We are carrying out essential resurfacing on the A303 near Andover in Hampshire.

Start date Tuesday 28 January 2025
End date Friday 30 May 2025, with further phases to follow over the next three years.
Cost Approximately £15million over the next three years.

    Essential resurfacing progressing well

    Essential resurfacing on the A303 near Andover in Hampshire is progressing well, with the work carried out at Thruxton completed as planned.

    We are working 9pm to 6am to try to limit disruption to traffic as much as possible. 

    There has also been a slight change to the programme of closures.

    See below for details:

    There will be no planned closures at Andover in April due to closures further along the A303 at Winterbourne Stoke.

    Closures and diversions

    The work is being phased to try to limit disruption to traffic as much as possible.

    The first will involve full overnight closures of the A303. 

    Closures, 9pm to 6am, will be:

    Monday 3 February to Friday 7 March (5 weeks) 
    • Closures of the A303 westbound between the Picket Twenty junction and the Weyhill/Monxton junction
    • The diversion will go via the Andover ring-road.
    Monday 10 March to Friday 28 March (3 weeks) 
    • Closures of the A303 eastbound between the Weyhill/Monxton junction and the Picket Twenty junction.
    • The diversion will go via the Andover ring-road

    Monday 31 March to Friday 4 April (5 nights) 

    • Closures of the A303 westbound between the Picket Twenty junction and the Weyhill/Monxton junction
    • The diversion will go via the Andover ring-road
    Tuesday 6 May to Friday 30 May (18 nights)
    • Closures of the A303 eastbound from the A3093 Picket Twenty junction (Andover) to the A34 Bullington Cross junction
    • The diversion will go via the A3057 to Stockbridge, then the A30 to Sutton Scotney, and join A34 at Bullington Cross 

    Diversions:

    For the A303 westbound Andover ring-road diversion:

    • exit at Picket Twenty junction, follow the A3093 Churchill Way
    • at Enham Arch roundabout, take the second exit onto A3057
    • at Folly roundabout take the third exit onto A343 Redon Way
    • continue on the A343 to Weyhill and rejoin the A303

    For the A303 eastbound Andover ring-road diversion:

    • exit at the Weyhill/Monxton junction, take the second exit onto the A343
    • continue on the A343 and at the Folly roundabout take the second exit onto the A3057
    • at the Enham Arch roundabout, take the third exit onto A3093 Churchill Way
    • follow the A3057 to Picket Twenty and rejoin the A303

    For the A303 eastbound Picket Twenty (Andover) to Bullington Cross diversion:

    • exit at A3057 Winchester Road junction
    • take the A3057 to Stockbridge
    • take the A30 to Sutton Scotney
    • at Sutton Scotney turn onto Bullington Lane to access Bullington Cross
    • rejoin the A303 at the Bullington Cross junction
