    Progress update

Due to unsuitable weather while we’ve been working to improve the A259, we’ve not quite finished our resurfacing of the final section between Broakoak Lane and West Down Road as planned.

We’ll need to return and carry out some final bits including the installation of road studs. This will take up to two nights, and we’ll provide more information about these additional closures here once confirmed.

    Resurfacing moves to final phase

We’ll be starting to resurface between Broadoak Lane and West Down Way on Monday 29 January. This is the final phase of the work and will take up to two weeks.

We continue to work on weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am.

Our work is subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we’ve been carrying out these essential improvements.

    Diversion route

During the closures, a signed diversion will be in place going in both directions via the A22, A271, A269 and A2036.

Please bear in mind that closure dates and times can change. For the most up-to-date information, visit our Daily closures page.

Accessing your property during our work

We’ll be carrying out our work in short sections to maintain access to homes and businesses. An escort will be provided for properties in the area where we’re working, please approach the closure point. There could be a short wait while we make it safe for you to pass.

Please note, the escort is for access to properties within the current closure area only. Please use the diversion route to access properties outside of the current working area. The site team will be happy to help if you have any questions about access as our work progresses.

If you live on the A259 and need regular access overnight, we’d like to know before we start so we can help. This could be due to work, medical or any other reason.

You can get this information to us via this form or by calling our contact centre on 0300 123 5000 (open 24/7), who will pass your details to the team.

There may be times when there are temporary traffic lights on the Little Common Roundabout while we’re working, but it will remain open for traffic travelling north and south at all times.
