Current Lower Thames Crossing works

Hole Farm community woodland

From: August 2024
To: October 2024

The following works will be undertaken over the next few months.

Demolition of the old farm buildings will commence in early September and take approximately four weeks to complete. These existing barns are in poor condition and need to be removed. We will limit noise and dust, but there will be some extra vehicle movements around the area. We will be installing an exclusion zone around the barn for the safety of the public and you’ll continue to be able to use footpaths and bridleways as normal.

To protect the trees, we need to put up some new fences. The work to install fencing has begun and will continue through August, September and October. Again, footpaths and bridleways will be open as normal.

What to expect over the next three months:

  • Increased number of workers on site with an ongoing security presence throughout this period to help manage the site.
  • Demolition of the old farm buildings to start in early September for around four weeks. Noise and dust mitigation measures will be in place to minimise the impact on residents.
  • Installation of additional fencing to facilitate tree planting later this year.

Ground investigation surveys

From: October 2024
To: January 2025

On the land previously used by Southern Valley Golf Club and adjacent private fields.

When: From end-October until mid-January 2025, subject to favourable weather conditions. Preparatory activities such as mobilising welfare facilities may start before.

The surveys will help us to identify the geology of the soil, obtain samples and carry out tests.

What to expect:

  • Movement of vehicles and equipment (such as tripod rigs, welfare) brought to site on a low loader or trailer
  • Drilling rigs being used to drill the boreholes Engineers and surveyors in high-visibility clothing
  • The working hours will be 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • All drilling activities will take place inside a temporary fenced area, using free standing, self-supporting fence panels (“Heras fencing”)

Our works will not affect public rights of way, which will remain open throughout this time.

We will update this page in advance of any works taking pace in the future.
