Thames Estuary Festival 2025

A summer community celebration supported by Lower Thames Crossing

Earlier this summer, we were proud to support Estuary Festival 2025 – a bold and imaginative celebration of the Thames Estuary’s culture, heritage and community.

Estuary Festival 2025

The Festival  launched with “Pop Up On The Pier” at Gravesend Town Pier, featuring boat journeys, artist talks, interactive workshops and film screenings – all exploring the estuary’s past, present and future. The wider festival offered a varied mix of creative events across public spaces in Kent and Essex. Highlights included “Call Me Back!”, a large-scale phone box installation sharing recorded stories from local young people, and live-streamed crossings of the Thames. From walks and exhibitions to hands-on workshops, the programme invited people to reflect on the identity and heritage of the Thames Estuary in thoughtful and engaging ways.

Following the launch, events continued across Kent and Essex, bringing communities together through immersive performances, large scale installations, creative walks, and hands on activities. All events were free to attend, making the arts accessible to all and strengthening the sense of place across the region.

Our support for Estuary Festival 2025 reflects our commitment to delivering more than a new road. Through Designated Funds, we've invested in projects that celebrate local identity, build community connections and bring long-term benefits to the areas we are working in.

A perfect example of how infrastructure and culture can go hand in hand.
