Work this year: Gravesend

We’re setting up a new compounds that will include offices, facilities for workers, and storage for materials, machinery and vehicles

We have started setting up the A2 site compound between Riverview and the A2 and will be doing surveys, followed by preparation for diverting a national gas main this year. We’ll also be doing archaeological digging on land northeast of Thong Lane, followed by setting up the southern tunnel entrance site closer to 2027.

What to expect

A2 site compound

  • Around 30 deliveries per day to A2 site compound
  • Construction vehicles using Thong Lane to access the site (travelling south from the A226) during initial set up
  • Majority of construction vehicles accessing the site from the A2, once the new access and haul roads are complete from mid 2026
  • Overnight closures with diversions while we build the new access point on Thong Lane

Southern tunnel entrance site compound

  • Initial deliveries of machinery via Thong Lane (via old Southern Valley Golf Club access), followed by minimal construction movements
  • Small welfare cabins for workforce in the west corner of the site
  • Ecology surveys in the wider area, including on some land north of the A226 and marshes near the River Thames
