A5 Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout to Old Stratford Roundabout maintenance work – 20 April to 12 May 2026
We’re resurfacing the A5 northbound between Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout and Old Stratford Roundabout.
We’ll also renew road markings and road studs (cat’s eyes).
We’ll work overnight (8pm to 6am) on weeknights only.

Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April - A5 northbound Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout to Bletcham Roundabout
Closed overnight (8pm to 6am) for two nights.
If you’re travelling northbound on the A5 from Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout:
- at Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout, take the second exit onto Watling Street
- stay on Watling Street to Roman Roundabout
- at Roman Roundabout, take the third exit onto V7 (Saxon Street)
- continue on V7 (Saxon Street) to Denbigh Road Roundabout
- at Denbigh Road Roundabout, take the third exit onto H10 (Bletcham Way)
- continue on H10 (Bletcham Way) to Fenny Lock Roundabout
- carry on to Bletcham Roundabout
- from Bletcham Roundabout, you can re-join the A5 northbound or use the local road network to continue your journey

- continue to Granby Roundabout
- at Granby Roundabout, take the third exit onto V6 (Grafton Street)
- continue on V6 (Grafton Street) to Redmoor Roundabout
- from Redmoor Roundabout, you can re-join the A5 northbound or use the local road network to continue your journey

- stay on the A509 to Portway Roundabout
- from Portway Roundabout, you can re-join the A5 northbound or use the local road network to continue your journey

- continue on the A509 to North Grafton Roundabout

- at Bancroft Roundabout, take the first exit onto A422 (H3 Monks Way)
- continue on the A422 (H3 Monks Way) to Abbey Hill Roundabout
- from Abbey Hill Roundabout, you can re-join the A5 northbound or use the local road network to continue your journey

- continue to Queen Eleanor Street Roundabout
- at Queen Eleanor Street Roundabout, take the third exit onto Queen Eleanor Street
- follow the road as it becomes London Road, then Towcester Road
- continue to Old Stratford Roundabout
- from Old Stratford Roundabout, you can re-join the A5 northbound or use the local road network to continue your journey

A12 junctions 19 to 25 road surface repairs – 20 April to 2 May 2026
Closures
20 – 25 April – A12 southbound between junctions 25 and 23
Closed overnight (9pm – 5am) on weeknights, ending the morning of 25 April.
Diversion
- leave the A12 at junction 25 (Marks Tey Interchange) and join the A120
- continue to Marks Farm Roundabout and take the first exit, staying on the A120
- at Galleys Corner Roundabout take the third exit, continuing to Great Notley Roundabout
- take the first exit onto the A131
- follow the A131 to junction 19 (Boreham Interchange) and re-join the A12
A12 junctions 25 to 23 southbound closure and diversion map

- leave the A12 at junction 19 and join the A131
- continue on the A131 and join the A1016
- stay on the A1016 through Nabbotts Farm Roundabout to Widford Roundabout
- at Widford Roundabout, take the second exit onto the A414
- continue to junction 15 of the A12 at Webbs Farm Interchange
- re-join the A12 and continue southbound

A12 Birchwood Road Bridge surveys - 5 May 2026
We're carrying out structural surveys on the southbound section of the A12 Birchwood Road Bridge between Copdock Interchange and Ardleigh Crown Interchange.
Closures and Diversion
Tuesday 5 May
A12 southbound between junctions 33 and 29 closed overnight (9pm-5am)
If you want to travel southbound on the A12 from Copdock Interchange:
- leave the interchange and join the A14 eastbound
- continue on the A14 to junction 56 (Wherstead Interchange)
- leave the A14 at junction 56 and join the A137 northbound
- continue on the A137 through Ardleigh to the Harwich Road / St Andrew’s Avenue roundabout
- take the third exit onto St Andrew’s Avenue (A133)
- continue to the Ipswich Road roundabout
- take the third exit onto Ipswich Road (A1232)
- continue to A12 junction 29 (Ardleigh Crown Interchange) and re-join the A12 southbound

- leave at junction 58
- follow the A1156 (Felixstowe Road) to Ransomes Way roundabout
- take the first exit onto the A1189 (Ransomes Way)
- at Nacton Road roundabout, take the first exit
- continue to Nacton Interchange to re-join the A14 westbound

A14 eastbound Orwell Bridge resurfacing junctions 55 to 58 - 23 and 24 March 2026
Work includes:
- resurfacing
- drainage works (sweeping and gully emptying)
- barrier repairs

23 and 24 March - A14 eastbound from junction 55 (Copdock) to 58 (Levington)
Closed overnight (8pm-6am) for two nights.
Diversion
- at junction 55 (Copdock Interchange), follow the A1214 London Road and turn left at the A137 crossroads to stay on the A1214 Yarmouth Road
- continue along the A1214 Valley Road and Colchester Road, going straight over five roundabouts
- at Woodbridge Road East, turn left and continue on the A1214 through two more roundabouts
- at the A12 Martlesham Roundabout, take the third exit and follow the A12 southbound
- continue through three roundabouts and re-join the A14 at junction 58 Levington

A47 eastbound Trowse Newton – drainage improvements – 28 April to 19 June 2026

The A47 eastbound between the A140 and A146 will be closed overnight (8pm – 6am) on the following dates:

- 9 – 10 May (2 nights)
- 16 – 17 May (2 nights)
- 26 May – 19 June, excluding weekends (19 nights)
Diversion
- Exit at the A140 (Ipswich Road) junction
- At the first intersection, take the first exit onto the A146
- Continue on the A146, passing Trowse Newton
- Rejoin the A47 eastbound at the A146 junction

- Leave the A47 at Thickthorn Interchange and join the A11
At Croxton, join the A134 towards Mundford and follow diversion signs - At Mundford roundabout, take the third exit onto the A1065
- Rejoin the A47 where the diversion ends

Diversion:
- Leave the A47 at Toftwood and join the A1075 southbound
- Follow the A1075 to the A11
- At the A11 roundabout, take the first exit towards Norwich
- At Thickthorn Interchange roundabout, take the second exit onto the A47 westbound

Closed overnight (8pm – 6am) for three nights, starting Friday 17 April.
Diversion:
- Continue along the A47 and take the next off slip onto Norwich Road
- At the traffic lights, turn left onto Station Road
- At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Yaxham Road
- At the traffic lights, turn right onto Tavern Lane where the diversion ends

- take the A1 southbound to the A1139 Fletton Parkway
- then take the B1260 Nene Parkway
- re-join the A47 at junction 15
9 June to 10 July – A47 eastbound between junction 15 and junction 16
Closed overnight (8pm–6am).
Diversion –
- take the B1260 Nene Parkway southbound
- turn left onto the A1139 Fletton Parkway
- turn left onto Paston Parkway
- rejoin the A47 at junction 20

A47 Trowse Newton drainage improvements – 28 April to 19 June 2026
We're undertaking drainage improvements on the A47 between the A140 and A146 junctions to prevent surface water build-up, reduce flooding risk and improve safety.
We'll work overnight (8pm-6am) over six weeks between 28 April and 19 June.
Closures
The A47 eastbound between the A140 and A146 will be closed overnight on the following dates:
- Tuesday 28 April to Friday 1 May (four nights)
- Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May (two nights)
- Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May (two nights)
- Tuesday 26 May to Friday 19 June, weeknights only (nineteen nights)
Diversion
- exit the A47 at the A140 (Ipswich Road) junction
- head north on Ipswich Road (A140) towards Norwich
- turn right onto Lakenham Road
- continue straight over the roundabout onto Barrett Road,
- then turn right onto the A146 at Trowse Newton
- re-join the A47 eastbound at the Trowse Newton / A146 junction
We'll ensure emergency vehicles have access through the works with caution.

From Tuesday 7 April (for approximately 7 weeks) – M1 junction 9 southbound entry slip road
Closed overnight (9pm – 5am) weeknights only.
One lane will remain open between M1 junctions 8 and 9 in both directions
No diversion is needed but please allow extra time for your journey.
Diversion
If you're joining the M1 southbound at junction 9:
- continue northbound to M1 junction 10 (Pepperstock Junction/Luton Airport)
- exit and turn around, then rejoin the M1 southbound at junction 10
