Work

We’ll be resurfacing on the M1 southbound between junctions 9 (Redbourn) and 8 (Hemel Hempstead). Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.

We planned to complete this last month, but due to work taking place on the M11 and A1(M) we could not proceed, and this meant that the scheme had to stand down.

Closure

We’ll complete this overnight, 10pm to 5am between Tuesday 25 February to Saturday 1 March, weather permitting.

To carry out the work safely, we'll need to close the M1 southbound between junctions 9 and 8, and divert traffic as follows:

Diversion

  • exit M1 at junction 9
  • then take the A5183 Dunstable Road sounthbound
  • continue on the B487 southwest
  • take Link Road to Picotts End
  • before turning left onto Leighton Buzzord Road southbound
  • turn left onto A414 (St Albans Road and
  • rejoin the M1 southbound at junction 8
