We are planning to carry out pavement surveys on the A1 between Fletton Parkway Interchange (Peterborough Services) and Wansford.

The surveys will to check the condition of the road, which involves taking samples from the carriageway and using radar to look beneath the surface. This helps engineers plan any future repairs or improvements to the road.

We plan to complete this work over four nights between Friday 24 January and Wednesday 29 January 2025. We will work between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A1, and divert traffic.

For traffic travelling northbound on the A1(M) to the A1:

  • exit the A1(M) at junction 17 and follow the road round to the right to join the A1139.
  • follow the A1139 to Hampton Roundabout and turn left onto Nene Parkway (A1260)
  • then join the A47 at Thorpe Wood Interchange. Rejoin the A1 at Wansford Interchange

Traffic travelling southbound will follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse.

Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England website. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.

We're moving to the next stage of our project to upgrade street lighting along the A12 between junctions 11 and 16 to more energy efficient LED lighting.

Following the successful completion of phase one in December 2024, phase two of the work is scheduled to take place over 3 weeks starting from Tuesday 7 January 2025.

We will work overnight between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather conditions permitting. As with the earlier phase, this schedule has been designed to minimise disruption to road users.

Upgrading to LED lighting forms a key part of our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency. LED lights provide the same brightness while consuming significantly less energy, lasting longer, and requiring less maintenance. This means fewer road closures for repairs and safer, well-lit roads for everyone.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out these essential works.

To carry out the LED lighting installations safely, we will need to close sections of the A12 and exit / entry slips between junction 12 and 16, and divert traffic as follows:

A12 southbound between junctions 12 and junction 28 M28 Interchange - 7 January to 11 January

Traffic will be directed to exit at junction 12 (Mountnessing Roundabout) and follow the A1023 southbound, continuing to M25 junction 28 where they can continue their journey.

A12 northbound between junctions 12 and 14 - 13 January to 14 January

Traffic will exit the northbound A12 at Junction 12 via the slip road, proceed along the B1002 (Roman Road), and rejoin the A12 at Junction 15.

We previously advised that we will be carrying out LED lighting upgrades along the A12 between junctions 17 and 23. While the majority of the LED installation work has been completed, we still have the southbound exit and entry slips for junction 18 to complete. We have also identified entry and exit slips in between junctions 22 and 23 of the A12 (northbound and southbound) which require urgent LED lighting installations.

LED lights are better for the environment and use far less energy to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer and require less maintenance, meaning fewer road closures to fix lighting in the future and more importantly, safer roads for everyone.

We plan to carry out these lighting upgrades over two nights from Monday 16 December to Wednesday 18 December 2024. We will work overnight between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the LED lighting installations safely, we will need to close exit and entry slips between junction 17 and 23 of the A12, and divert traffic as follows:
