East - Maintenance schemes

Road maintenance work taking place in the East region.

Project information

View a maintenance scheme

You can view more details about the maintenance schemes taking place in the East below:

In late 2024 the culvert supporting the A1 over Billing Brook at Water Newton near Peterborough was damaged in a traffic collision.

As a result, we had to close the A1 southbound lane one over Billing Brook for safety reasons.

We've completed temporarily re-aligning the A1 southbound.  This has allowed us to open two lanes for traffic while avoiding the damaged culvert.

We'll need overnight closures on the A1 southbound for some works in December.

We'll start permanently repairing the damaged culvert in 2026-27.

Temporary speed limit

We'll impose a temporary 40mph speed limit:

  • while we work
  • when we re-open two narrow lanes to traffic on the temporary alignment
