We’re resurfacing the A1(M) northbound between Junctions 7 and 8 to provide a smoother and safer road.
When:
- Dates: Saturday 5 October to Monday 7 October 2024
- Time: 9pm to 5am (weather dependent)
Closure:
- The A1(M) northbound between Junctions 7 and 8 will be closed during the works.
Diversion Route:
If you're heading northbound:
- Exit the A1(M) at Junction 7 and take the A602.
- Continue on the A1072 (Gunnels Wood Road) until the fourth roundabout.
- At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A602 and rejoin the A1(M) at Junction 8.

We began this work on Monday 23 September with preparations for the main flooding prevention work to start on Friday 11 October.
We will now be working this weekend, between Friday 11 October to Monday 14 October and Friday 1 November 2024, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close a section of the A1 and divert traffic as follows:
A1 southbound between Wyboston and the Black Cat Roundabout
Friday 11 October, 10pm to Monday 14 October, 5am
Friday 1 November, 8pm to Saturday 2 November, 6am
If you wish to travel southbound:
- follow the A428 east and then take a right at the roundabout heading south on Barford Road.
- continue south to rejoin the A1 southbound at the Tempsford entry slip road
If you wish to travel west on the A421 and for local access to Roxton via the Black Cat Roundabout:
- cross the A1 at Tempsford and rejoin the A1 northbound to the Black Cat Roundabout.

We are planning to carry out essential bridge survey’s on the A1(M) at junction 9, Letchworth Gate interchange. The purpose of the bridge survey is to carry out various extensive tests on both bridges at the Letchworth Gate interchange.
We plan to begin working here between Monday 12 August and Monday 4 November 2024.
We will work weeknights only, between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

We're performing essential maintenance on the A5 between Thorn Roundabout and the Flying Fox Roundabout.
We'll be working overnight (8pm to 6am) for five nights from Monday 7 October to Saturday 12 October 2024.
Closures and Diversions
To work safely, we need to close both lanes of the A5 between Thorn Roundabout and Flying Fox Roundabout.
Northbound Diversion
If you are travelling northbound on the A5:
- turn left off the Dunstable Northern Bypass (A5) onto Watling Street and then right at the next roundabout to join the A505
- continue following the A505 to Billington Road Roundabout and take the second exit, straight onto the A4146
- continue on the A4146 to Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout and turn right to rejoin the A5 heading back towards the Flying Fox Roundabout.
Southbound Diversion
If you are travelling southbound on the A5, follow the above diversion in reverse.

We’re carrying out maintenance work on the A5 Kelly’s Kitchen Roundbaout to Flying Fox Roundabout. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer and smoother road surface.
We plan to complete this work over one night on Monday 30 September 2024. We will work between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.
Closures
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A5 in both directions between Kelly’s Kitchen Roundbaout to Flying Fox Roundabout, and divert traffic.
Diversions
Traffic will be diverted via the A5, A505 and A4146 for both directions.
A soft closure will be in place from Thorn Roundabout to Flying Fox Roundabout to allow access for local residents to minimise through traffic while we complete our work.

We are improving grassland biodiversity along the A11 corridor between Mildenhall and Thetford. To complete the final phase of this three-year project, we’ll be carrying out environmental work within the verge at six sites along this stretch of the A11. This will encourage a range of plant species to mature.
Closures:
We plan to start this final phase on Thursday 7 November 2024 for approximately three weeks. We will work between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.
We are currently carrying out surveys and vegetation clearance at the six sites along the A11, prior to the main work starting.
To carry out the work safely, we will require some lane closures at various locations northbound and southbound on the A11 between the Fiveways Roundabout and London Road Roundabout.
We will be using temporary traffic lights to manage the flow of traffic. This means no diversions are needed.
We’re upgrading the street lighting on the A12 between junctions 17 and 23 to energy-efficient LED lights as part of our efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
LED lights are better for the environment and use far less energy to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer and require less maintenance, meaning fewer road closures to fix lighting in the future and more importantly, safer roads for everyone.
We plan to carry out these lighting upgrades over approximately five weeks starting on Monday 21 October to Friday 22 November 2024. We will work overnight between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

To work safely, we need to close the A12 northbound between junctions 28 and 29.
Diversion
If you want to travel on the A12 northbound:
- leave at junction 28 to be diverted to junction 26
- then leave the A12 onto the A1124/London Road
- exit at Cymbeline Way/Cowdray Avenue (A133) and the A1232 Ipswich Road
- rejoin the A12 at junction 29

We are planning to carry out drainage work on the A12 at the junction 29 exit-slip towards Crown Interchange. Once complete, the road will be able to disperse surface water better and will be less prone to flooding.

- Exit the A12 at junction 31 and turn onto B1070.
- Follow the B1070 round to rejoin the A12 southbound towards junction 29.
- Then exit southbound at junction 29.

- Continue on the A12 to junction 22
- Take the exit to travel along Colemans Bridge
- At the traffic lights, turn right onto Colchester Road
- Continue along Colchester Road and merge onto the A12 northbound
- Exit at junction 23 (Kelvedon) and travel along the B1024
- Continue through High Street and Feering Hill, where the road will connect with London Road and the diversion will end
If you are travelling from New Lane heading to Kelvedon:
- You will be diverted northbound onto the A12 to junction 25 (Marks Tey)
- At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Marks Tey Interchange then proceed to the Prince of Wales Roundabout
- Take the second exit onto London Road to rejoin the A12 southbound.
- Continue on the A12
- Exit at junction 22 and travel along Colemans Bridge
- Turn right at the traffic lights onto Colchester Road, then merge onto the A12 northbound
- Exit at junction 23 (Kelvedon)

- exit the slip road onto the A605 towards Oundle and continue all the way to rejoin the A14 at junction 13
Non-Motorway traffic
If you are travelling westbound to junction 13 on the A14:
- exit the A1/A1(M) at Alconbury
- at the roundabout,t take the second exit and join the B1043 to Norman Cross Roundabout
- at the roundabout, take the second exit onto A15 (London Road)
- at the third roundabout, take the first exit onto the Serpentine A1260 and join the Fletton Parkway (A1139) at junction 3.
- continue on the A1139 to the A605 and rejoin the A14 at junction 13

- take the A14 eastbound to junction 45.
- and then return westbound.
We are planning to carry out bridge joint repairs on the A14 westbound between junctions 24 and 22. This will ensure the A14 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.
We plan to complete this work overnight on 19 November 2024. We will work between 8pm and 6am only, weather permitting.
Closure
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 westbound between junctions 24 and 21, and divert traffic as follows.
Diversion
- Exit at junction 24.
- Take the 3rd exit onto the bridge.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit on to the A1307.
- At Godmanchester, take the exit slip.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit on to A1198.
- Continue on A1198 until Caxton Gibbet roundabout.
- At Caxton Gibbet roundabout, take the 3rd exit on the A428.
- Continue on the A428 until Wyboston.
- Take the A1 northbound towards Brampton before rejoining the A14 at junction 21.

We plan to carry out street light replacement on the A47 Middleton Road, Gorleston.
We plan to complete this work over two nights between Monday 21 October and Tuesday 22 October. We will work between 9pm and 4am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close access to and from the B1370 at Middleton Road, while we replace the lighting column located in the centre island.
If you are following this route, you will be diverted along the B1370 onto Pound Lane and Stanley Avenue to rejoin the A47.
If you wish to enter Middleton Road, follow the diversion in reverse.
We are planning to carry out resurfacing on the A47 between Pullover Roundabout and Saddlebow Interchange. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer and smoother road surface.
We plan to complete this work over five nights between Thursday 26 September to Thursday 3 October 2024. We will work between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A47 between Pullover Roundabout and Saddlebow Interchange, and divert traffic as follows:
Eastbound Closure - 26 September and 1 October only
If you are travelling eastbound from Wisbech,
- Take the A1101 from Wisbech Roundabout and stay on the A1101 to Outwell
- From Outwell, take the A1122 (Wisbech Road) towards Downham Market
- Then turn left onto the A10 northbound towards Kings Lynn
- At Hardwick Roundabout, turn right to rejoin the A47 eastbound
Westbound Closure - 27 September, 30 September and 2 October only
If you are travelling westbound, follow the same diversion as above, in reverse, but at Wisbech Roundabout, take the A47 eastbound to Pullover Roundabout.
We're resurfacing the A47 Crowland Road Roundabout in Eye Green near Peterborough.
Closures
We'll close the A47 between Welland Road Roundabout and Oversley Lodge Roundabout overnight (8pm - 6am) on Tuesday 24 and Thursday 26 September.
We need the closure to work safely.

Main diversion for eastbound traffic
If you're travelling from Welland Road Roundabout:
- follow the A47 to Dogsthorpe Roundabout and take the A15 eastbound towards Eye Roundabout.
- at Eye Roundabout, take the A1139 (Fletton Parkway) southbound and then merge onto the A605 (Stanham Way)
- at the Flaxley Road Roundabout, take the first exit and carry on along the A605 eastbound
- follow the A605 eastbound towards the A141 (March Road)
- take the A141 northbound to rejoin the A47
Main diversion for westbound traffic
Follow the same diversion in reverse.
Local diversion
If you're travelling from Crowland Road North to Crowland Road South
- turn onto Green Road
- continue until White Post Road junction
- turn onto White Post Road southbound
- continue until Littlewood roundabout
- take the A1139 towards the next roundabout and join Peterborough Road towards the High Street
- follow the High Street towards Crowland Road
If you're travelling from Crowland Road South to Crowland Road North, follow the same diversion in reverse.

- At this roundabout, head north on the A134 / A1065 to Swaffham Interchange
- Continue your journey on the A47 westbound or eastbound to Norwich Rd Roundabout.
Eastbound diversion
If you are traveling eastbound, follow the same diversion above in reverse route.
We're refreshing road markings on the A47 between Sparrows Nest and Bascule Bridge
We'll perform the work in phases, starting on Monday 14 October 2024 for approximately 6 weeks. We will work weeknights only (8pm and 6am).
Lowestoft train station will remain accessible throughout the works, either by Katwijk Way or Denmark Road.

- exit the A47 at Station Square

- continue on the A47

Northbound diversion:
If you wish to travel north on the A47 towards Corton
- exit the A47 and turn left at Jubilee Way Roundabout onto the A1144
- exit the A1144 onto A12 (Peto Way) and follow the A12 to Blundeston Road Roundabout
- Rejoin the A47.
Southbound diversion:
If you wish to travel south, follow the above diversion, but in reverse.
Station Square to Horn Hill Roundabout - Monday 4 November to Thursday 7 November
Northbound diversion
If you wish to travel northbound on the A12 (Tom Crisp Way):
- turn left onto Waveney Drive and then right towards Gull Wing Bridge
- continue over Gull Wing Bridge, onto Peto Way
- then turn right at the roundabout onto A1144 (Normanston Drive) for Lowestoft
If you wish to continue onto the A47:
- take the second exit at the roundabout to continue along the A12
- re-join the A47 at Blundeston roundabout.
Southbound diversion
If you wish to travel southbound, follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse.

We are planning resurfacing and traffic signal equipment maintenance work to the A120 Blake End Interchange exit slip road. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer and smoother road.
We plan to complete this work over three nights between Monday 4 November and Thursday 7 November 2024. We will work between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A120 Blake End Interchange westbound exit slip road and divert traffic.
If you are travelling this route:
- continue westbound on the A120 and exit at the Great Dunmow Interchange
- take the third exit at the roundabout
- proceed over the A120 to the next roundabout.
- then take the second exit at the next roundabout and join the B1256
- at the next roundabout, take the second exit and stay on the B1256 for approximately 4.7 miles
- then turn right onto the B1417, going over the A120 at the Blake End Interchange where the diversion will end

As part of our effort to reduce carbon emissions from roadside lighting, we’ll be carrying out lighting upgrades from high pressure sodium lights (SON) to LED lighting from Birchanger Green Roundabout to Dunmow south Interchange on the A120.
LED lights are better for the environment and use far less energy to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer and require less maintenance, meaning fewer road closures to fix lighting in the future and more importantly, safer roads for everyone.
We plan to carry out this work over four weeks between Monday 23 September and Friday 18 October 2024. We will work overnight between 8pm and 6am, weeknights only, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the LED lighting upgrades safely, we will need to close the exit / entry slip roads on the A120 and parts of the A120 between Birchanger Green Roundabout and Dunmow south Interchange. Traffic will be diverted as follows:
A120 entry on to the M11 westbound fast link entry slip - 25 September, 8pm to 6am
If you're traveling westbound:
- follow Priory Wood Roundabout to Thremhall Avenue.
- enter Birchanger Green Roundabout
- then follow the M11 southbound entry slip to continue your journey on the M11
A120 westbound closure and diversion between Stansted and Priory Wood Roundabout - 27 September, 30 September and 1 October, 8pm to 4am
Divert on to the Stansted service roads (Long Border Road).
A120 westbound exit slip at Stansted junction - 3 October to 4 October, 8pm to 6am
If you want to exit the A120 westbound at Stansted junction:
- turn around at Priory Wood Roundabout
- continue eastbound on the A120 and exit onto Bassingbourn Roundabout
A120 eastbound entry slip from Stansted - 3 October to 4 October, 8pm to 6am
If you want to enter the A120 eastbound from Stansted:
- exit Bassingbourn Roundabout and travel westbound down the A120
- continue travelling to Priory Wood Roundabout, to turn around and continue eastbound on the A120
A120 eastbound entry slip at Priory Wood Roundabout - 11 October and 14 October, 8pm to 4am
If you want to use the A120 eastbound entry slip from Priory Wood Roundabout:
- use the service road (Long Border Road) to Bassingbourn Roundabout and then Stansted junction
- rejoin the A120 and continue your journey eastbound
A120 Dunmow West Interchange eastbound exit slip - 15 October, 8pm to 6am
If you want to use the eastbound exit slip at Dunmow West Interchange:
- continue on to Dunmow South Interchange and exit via the westbound exit slip.
Dunmow West Interchange A120 westbound entry slip closure - 15 October, 8pm to 6am
If you want to enter the A120 westbound:
- follow Takeley Street (B1256) to Birchanger Green Roundabout
- return via Priory Wood roundabout.

If you want to use the westbound exit slip on the A120 at Dunmow West Interchange:
- continue on the A120 westbound and turn around at Stansted junction
- continue travelling eastbound on the A120
- exit the A120 via the exit slip at Dunmow west Interchange
A120 eastbound entry slip from West Dunmow Interchange - 16 October, 8pm to 4am
If you want to use the eastbound entry slip from Dunmow West Interchange:
- divert on to the B1256
- rejoin the A120 at Dunmow South Interchange
We plan to carry out emergency barrier repair work on the A421 entry and exit slip roads at Marston Moretaine. This safety work is critical, following the recent flooding to this section of road. It will ensure the A421 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.
We plan to complete this work over two nights between Friday 25 October and Monday 28 October 2024. We will work between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A421 westbound exit and entry slip roads at Marston Moretaine. Traffic will be diverted as follows:
Westbound exit slip road closure
Continue on the A421 westbound to the Brogborough/M1 junction then return on the eastbound carriageway to exit at Marston Moretaine.
Westbound entry slip road closure
Join the A421 eastbound to Marsh Leys Interchange then leave the A421 and rejoin on the westbound carriageway.
Once our work is complete, we hope we’ll be able to remove the 40mph temporary speed restrictions which are currently in place.
We're improving the drainage on the A421 eastbound carriageway. Once complete, road surface water will disperse more efficiently.
To carry out the work safely, we'll need to close the inside lane, starting approximately one mile before the Amazon LTN7 site.
We plan to complete this work over between Tuesday 29 October and Friday 22 November 2024. We will work between 8pm and 6am weekdays only, weather permitting.

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A428 eastbound between Cambourne and Hardwick.
If traveling between Cambourne and Hardwick:
- take the exit slip road at the Cambourne Road junction
- at the roundabout, take the second exit onto St Neots Road and follow the road eastbound.
- at the roundabout at the junction between St Neots Road, Wellington Way and Highfields Road, take the second exit to continue on St Neots Road.
- at the next roundabout take the first exit onto Scotland Road over the A428 to the next roundabout
- then take the third exit to rejoin the eastbound A428

We planned to complete this last month, but due to work taking place on the M11 and A1(M) we had to temporarily keep this scheme on hold.
We now plan to complete this work over five nights between Tuesday 19 November to Saturday 23 November. We will work between 10pm to 5am, weather permitting.
To work safely, we'll close the M1 southbound between junctions 9 and 8.
Diversion
- exit the M1 at junction 9
- take the A5183 Dunstable Road southbound, then continue on the B487 southwest
- take Link Road to Picotts End
- then turn left onto Leighton Buzzard Road southbound
- turn left onto A414 (St Albans Road) to rejoin the M1 southbound at junction 8

- take the A505 towards Royston
- at the A10 roundabout, take the third exit to join the A10 (Melbourn Road)
- continue on the A10 northbound to the M11 roundabout at junction 11
- then take the second exit onto A1309.
- turn right on the A1301 (Shelford Road)
- continue to the roundabout to rejoin the A505 Causeway to Hunts Farm Roundabout
For motorway traffic:
- continue on the M11 at junction 10 and follow to junction 11.
- exit the M11 and take the fourth exit on the roundabout to rejoin the M11 southbound
- exit the M11 at junction 10 if you wish to join the A505
