A47 Acle to Beccles Interchange lighting and maintenance
We’ll be resurfacing, upgrading lights and refreshing road marking on the A47 between Acle and Beccles Interchange in Gorleston-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth.

Updated closures
The work on the A47 Accles to Beccles stopped over the summer holidays and will be restarting from tonight.
We've completed works south of Great Yarmouth, including road markings between Great Yarmouth and Gorleston-on-Sea.
Our work began on Tuesday 27 May 2025 and will last for approximately 22 weeks until November 2025. We'll work between 8pm and 6am for 6 nights a week, weather permitting.
We’re now resurfacing and refreshing road markings on the A47 between Acle and Beccles Interchange between Gorleston-on-Sea and Great Yarmouth.
We’ll also upgrade the existing lighting on the A47 at the junction to Halvergate to improve visibility.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we'll need to close the A47 in three phases, and divert traffic as detailed below:
Monday 8 September Friday 12 September
Drivers will be diverted from A47 Acle Roundabout to Runham Roundabout
Drivers travelling eastbound on the A47 will need to:
- exit the A47 at Trowse Interchange onto the A146
- turn onto the A143 at Gillingham
- continue on the A143 to Harfrey’s Roundabout
- re-join the A47
Traffic travelling westbound will need to follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse.
Sunday 8 September to Friday 22 November
From Sunday 14 September, we will be making some minor changes to the programme. We will working 6 nights instead of 5 nights. This is to help achieve an earlier completion date earlier then expected.
Drivers will be diverted from A47 Acle Roundabout to Runham Roundabout
Drivers travelling eastbound on the A47 will need to:
- exit the A47 at Trowse Interchange onto the A146
- turn onto the A143 at Gillingham
- continue on the A143 to Harfrey’s Roundabout
- re-join the A47
Drivers travelling westbound will need to follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse.
On Sunday 22 September, due to the Blofield to North Burlingham construction, we will be extending our closure during this time, between Cucumber Lane roundabout to Runham roundabout.
We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.

Road marking completion - Wednesday 20 August
We're returning to the A47, in Great Yarmouth, to renew road markings that were unable to be completed on 1 August due to bad weather.
It will be carried out Wednesday 20 August (8pm-6am) between Runham Roundabout and Gapton Hall Roundabout.
Diversion
If you're travelling southbound on the A47:
- leave the A47 at Runham Roundabout onto Acle New Road
- turn right onto North Quay
- turn right onto A1243 Bridge Road
- continue onto Pasteur Road
- re-join the A47 at Gapton Hall Roundabout
If you want to travel northbound, follow this diversion in reverse.

17 July 2025
Change of diversion route - 17 to 18 July (8pm to 6am)
We're changing our diversion route for the A47 Acle roundabout to Runham Roundabout closure.
This is due to closures on the current diversion by the A146 and A143.
If you want to travel eastbound on the A47:
- leave the A47 at Acle Roundabout onto the A1064
- then continue on the A1604 to the Caister Bypass before coming to Fullers Hill roundabout
- from the Fuller Hill roundabout turn right onto the A149, to re-join the A47
Our normal diversion will resume when we continue works from 8 September until 28 November.

Changes to closures for July
We'll be working for approximately 22 weeks from 22 May until November 2025.
Since early June, we’ve been resurfacing the Acle Straight. We’ve now completed over 8 kilometres of resurfacing from the Acle roundabout to Branch Road.
Closures
Our closures will be overnight (8pm - 6am) on weeknights only, weather permitting.

We won't be working on the Acle Straight between Saturday 19 July and Sunday 7 September 2025.

- leave the A47 at Runham Roundabout onto Acle New Road
- turn right onto North Quay
- continue southbound to South Quay and Southgates Road
- turn right onto Herring Bridge
re-join the A47 at Harfrey’s Roundabout
If you want to travel northbound, follow this diversion in the opposite direction.
Thursday 4 September – Gapton Hall Roundabout to Victoria Roundabout
Closed overnight for road marking.
Diversion
We'll divert traffic from A47 Harfrey’s Gapton Hall Roundabout to Victoria Roundabout
If you're travelling southbound:
- leave the A47 at Harfrey’s Roundabout onto Beccles Road Gapton Hall roundabout onto Pasteur Road and over Haven Bridge
- turn right onto A1243
- turn right onto Herring Bridge
- at the roundabout turn left onto William Adams Way
- continue over Stone Cross Roundabout on the A143
- turn left at the roundabout onto the B1534 (Beaufort Way)
re-join the A47 at Beacon Park Roundabout
If you want to travel northbound, follow this diversion in the opposite direction.

On Monday 14 July, we will be extending the current closures between Cucumber Lane roundabout and Vauxhall roundabout to accommodate both our work near Blofield and Acle to Beccles with closures will be in both directions.
There will be no planned roadworks on the Acle Straight between Saturday 19 July and Sunday 7 September 2025.
