A47 Acle to Beccles Interchange lighting and maintenance
We’ll be doing resurfacing, upgrading lights and refreshing road marking on the A47 between Acle and Beccles Interchange in Gorleston-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth.

Work starts 27 May until November 2025
We’re resurfacing and doing refreshing road markings on the A47 between Acle and Beccles Interchange between Gorleston-on-Sea and Great Yarmouth.
We’ll also upgrade the existing lighting on the A47 at the junction to Halvergate to improve visibility.
We plan to start work on Tuesday 27 May 2025, for approximately 22 weeks until November 2025. We'll work between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.
There will be no planned roadworks on the Acle Straight between Saturday 19 July and Sunday 7 September 2025.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we'll need to close the A47 in three phases, and divert traffic as detailed below:
- Tuesday 27 May to Friday 18 July
- Monday 8 September to Friday 28 November
Traffic will be diverted from A47 Acle Roundabout to Runham Roundabout
Traffic wishing to travel eastbound on the A47 will need to:
- exit the A47 at Trowse Interchange onto the A146
- turn onto the A143 at Gillingham
- continue on the A143 to Harfrey’s Roundabout
- rejoin the A47

Traffic travelling westbound will need to follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse.
- Monday 21 July to Friday 8 August
Traffic will be diverted from A47 Runham Roundabout to Harfrey’s Roundabout
Traffic travelling southbound on the A47 will need to:
- exit the A47 at Runham Roundabout onto Acle New Road
- turn right onto North Quay
- continue southbound to South Quay and Southgates Road
- turn right onto Herring Bridge
- rejoin the A47 at Harfrey’s Roundabout

Traffic travelling northbound will need to follow the same diversion as above, but in reverse.
- Monday 11 August to Friday 15 August
Traffic will be diverted from A47 Harfrey’s Roundabout to Victoria Roundabout
Traffic travelling southbound on the A47 will need to:
- exit the A47 at Harfrey’s Roundabout onto Beccles Road
- continue over Stone Cross Roundabout on the A143
- turn left at the roundabout onto the B1534 (Beaufort Way)
- rejoin the A47 at Beacon Park Roundabout

Overview
We’re resurfacing and refreshing the road markings on the A47 between Acle and Beccles Interchange (between Gorleston-on-Sea and Great Yarmouth).
We’ll also upgrade the existing lights on the A47 at the junction to Halvergate to improve visibility.
