    March closure

Work on replacing the pumping station at Marston Moretaine continues. As part of relocating the pumping station, we’ll now begin to construct a new control system.

To allow for this to be done safely, we’ll install a temporary safety barrier on the eastbound entry slip road. This will help safeguard our team while enabling work to continue with minimal road closures and disruption.

We will work overnight (8pm to 6am) on Monday 10 March.

To work safely, we will need the following closures:

    A421 eastbound exit slip road

If you want to exit to the A421:

    • continue on the A421 Eastbound to Marsh Leys
    • then return on the Westbound back to Marston to exit

    A421 eastbound entry slip road

If you want to enter the A421 eastbound from Beancroft Road:

    • head westbound towards M1 junction 13 at Brogborough
    • then return onto the A421 eastbound to continue your journey

Following the installation of the temporary barrier:

    • The hard shoulder on the eastbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed.
    • A 40mph speed limit will be in place only on the eastbound entry slip road for four weeks to ensure the safety of our team and to help drivers adjust to the road layout.

We'll have lane closures on the A421 and the entry slip road at Marston Moretaine when we do the work.

Overview

Last year, we experienced high levels of rainfall and the pumping station couldn’t cope, so the A421 at Marston Moretaine was closed for several weeks.

We will be replacing and relocating the pumping station to higher ground, to help it cope better with heavy rain in the future.
