    Planned closures, Monday 20 October to December 2025

    We’re resurfacing and doing drainage work on the A14 between junction 33 and 38.

    Once complete, drivers will enjoy a safer, smoother and better-marked road that drains and is less likely to flood. 

    We’ll be working between Monday 20 October until the end of December 2025, weeknights only, weather permitting.

    Closures and diversions

    To work safely, we’ll need the following road closures.

    Monday 20 October to Friday 7 November 2025 (9pm to 6am) 

    A14 between junction 33 to 39 eastbound and A11 northbound from Six Mile Bottom closed

    A14 traffic will be diverted at junction 33 (Milton)

    • Leave the A14 at junction 33
    • At Milton Interchange, take the first exit onto the A10
    • Continue on the A10 and after passing Little Thetford, join the A142 onto the Ely Southern Bypass
    • Continue south on the A142
    • Rejoin the A14 at junction 37

    A11 traffic will be diverted at the A1304 junction (Six Mile Bottom)

    • Continue along the A1304 London Road
    • At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Barbara Stradbroke
    • Avenue and continue through Newmarket
    • Rejoin the A11 onto the fast link entry slip road

    14 junction 33 to 38 and A11 northbound diversion route

    Monday 10 November until the end of December 2025 (9pm to 6am) 

     A14 eastbound junction 35 to 39 closed

    A14 traffic will be diverted at junction 35 (Stow Cum Quy)

    • Leave the A14 at junction 35
    • At Quy Interchange, take the first exit onto the A1303
    • At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto A1304 (Barbara Stradbroke Avenue) and continue through Newmarket
    • Turn onto the B1506 (Well Bottom) and follow it onto Bury Road
    • Rejoin the A14 at junction 39

    A11 Traffic will be diverted at the A1304 junction (Six Mile Bottom)

    • Continue along the A1304 London Road
    • At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Barbara Stradbroke
    • Avenue and continue through Newmarket
    • Rejoin the A11 via the fast link entry slip road

    Planned road closures in October 2025

    Our maintenance work is progressing well.

    The next phase of work including resurfacing and drainage is on the A14 eastbound between junctions 35 (Stow Cum Quy Interchange) and 38 (Waterhall Interchange). 

    To work safely, we’ll need to close the road weeknights (9pm to 6am) from Monday 13 to Friday 17 October. 

    Diversions

    A14 traffic will be diverted at junction 35 (Stow Cum Quy Interchange) by:

    • leaving the A14 at junction 35 
    • at Stow Cum Quy Interchange, take the first exit onto the A1303 
    • at the next roundabout, take the second exit onto A1304 (Barbara Stradbroke Avenue) and continue through Newmarket 
    • turn onto the B1506 (Well Bottom) and follow it onto Bury Road
    • re-join the A14 at junction 39 

    A11 Traffic will be diverted at the A1304 junction (Six Mile Bottom) by:

    • continuing along the A1304 London Road 
    • at the roundabout, take the third exit onto Barbara Stradbroke Avenue and continue through Newmarket
    • re-join the A11 via the fast link entry slip road

    We’ll also begin work between junctions 33 (Milton Interchange) and 37 (Exning Interchange) soon.

    A14 junction 36 to 42 resurfacing and drainage works

    Works

    Our maintenance work is progressing well on the A14.

    We’ve finished the westbound section, and we’ll shortly begin the next stage of our work eastbound between junctions 38 (Waterhall) and 42 (Bury St Edmunds). This will include resurfacing and drainage works.

    Closures and Diversion

    To work safely, we’ll need these closures:

    • Monday 29 September to Friday 10 October (9pm to 6am)

    If you're heading east on the A14:

    • leave at junction 38
    • head north on the A11 to Thetford
    • leave the A11 and take the A134 (Brandon Road)
    • continue on the A134 to the A143
    • re-join the A14 at junction 43 (St Saviours)

    A14 junction 36 (Cambridge) to 42 (Bury St Edmunds) resurfacing and drainage maintenance

    We’ll refresh road markings along the A14 between junctions 38 (Waterhall) and 42 (Bury St Edmunds).

    To work safely, we’ll need these closures:

    Monday 29 September to Friday 10 October (9pm to 5am)

    A14 eastbound between junctions 38 (Waterhall) and 42 (Bury St Edmunds). 

    Diversion

    If you're heading east on the A14:

    • leave at junction 38
    • head north on the A11 to Thetford
    • leave the A11 and take the A134 (Brandon Road)
    • continue on the A134 to the A143
    • rejoin the A14 at junction 43 (St Saviours)

    Once we finish the westbound section, we’ll start work eastbound between junctions 36 and 42. This will run from early October to December 2025.

    Work gets under way

    To work safely, we’ll need the following road closures: 
     
    Monday 21 July to Saturday 8 August (8pm to 6am) - A14 westbound between junctions 36 and 42, both lane one and lane two closures. No diversion necessary. 
     
    Monday 11 August to end of September 2025 (9pm to 5am) - A14 between junctions 36 and 39 full westbound closure.

    Diversions

    • If you're heading west on the A14 from junction 39, leave at junction 39 and follow the B1506. 
    • Continue through Newmarket on the A1304. At the first roundabout, take the third exit onto the A1303. 
    • Stay on the A1303 until you reach junction 36, where you can rejoin the A14.

    Drivers wanting to get to the A11 can use the same diversion route and join the A11 via Six Mile Bottom. 

    Once we finish the westbound section, we’ll start work eastbound between junctions 36 and 42. This will run from early October to December 2025. We’ll also begin improvements between junctions 39 and 42. We’ll be in touch soon with more details.

Overview

We’re resurfacing and carrying out drainage renewal on the A14 between junction 36 and 42. 
 
Once complete, drivers will enjoy a safer, smoother and better-marked road that drains more effectively and is less likely to flood.  
 
We’ll work between Monday 21 July and December 2025, weeknights only, weather permitting. 

This work will ensure the A14 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition in these areas.
