    December closures

As we're near to the end of the concrete overlay works on the A14, we will need to close junction 53 westbound entry and exit slips from Bury Road Roundabout for one night on Monday 16 December 2024 between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

    Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the westbound entry and exit slips at junction 53, and divert traffic as detailed below:

    Westbound entry slip:

    • If you wish to join the A14 westbound at Junction 53 join the eastbound A14 to Junction 54 and turn around.
    • Continue your journey westbound on the A14.

    November and December closures

The westbound carriageway work is now scheduled for completion by Friday 22 November. Following this, we will resume overnight closures of the eastbound carriageway for approximately three weeks on weeknights only, starting from Monday 25 November through to Saturday 14 December between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

    Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 between junction 52 (Claydon) and 55 (Copdock Interchange), and divert traffic as follows:

    Eastbound diversion
    • Exit the A14 at junction 52.
    • Travel via the B1113 through Sproughton and Bramford, then along the A1071 and A1214.
    • Rejoin the A14 at Copdock Interchange.

    Additional measures

Following feedback from residents, when full closures are required on the A14 eastbound carriageway, we will implement a road closure at Paper Mill Lane to prevent unsuitable vehicles using this as a cut through. Access to the Premier Inn will still be available.

We are committed to minimising disruption for residents along the diversion route and will continue monitoring traffic on the B1113. We are working closely with local representatives to address any concerns and implement mitigation measures where possible.

    November Update

We have now started work on the westbound carriageway and closures are planned to be in place until Friday 29 November.

Following this, we plan to complete work on the eastbound carriageway from Monday 2 December until Friday 13 December, weather permitting.

    Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 between junction 55 (Copdock Interchange) and 52 (Claydon), and divert traffic as detailed below:

    For the westbound diversion:

    • exit at junction 55 (Copdock Interchange)
    • travel along the A1214 and A1071
    • continue along the B1113 through Sproughton and Bramford
    • rejoin the A14 at Claydon

For the eastbound diversion, travel the same as above but in reverse.

Following feedback from residents, when full closures are required on the A14 eastbound carriageway, we will implement a road closure at Paper Mill Lane to prevent unsuitable vehicles using this as a cut through. Access to the Premier Inn will still be available.

Additionally, there will be slip road closures on the A14 eastbound carriageway as follows:

    • A14 eastbound junction 54 - Saturday 9 November and Saturday 16 November

    View diversion map.

Any drivers affected will be diverted up to the next junction to return on A14 westbound.

We will continue to monitor traffic on the diversion route and work with local representatives to mitigate disruption to residents living on the B1113.

Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England website. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.

    Roadworks progress update

We're continuing the essential maintenance of the A14, which we started on 16 September.

Unfortunately our programme has been delayed due to recent poor weather.

    Closures

To safely finish our work on the eastbound carriageway, we need to close the A14 between junction 52 (Claydon) and 55 (Copdock Interchange)

We’ll need to have further overnight closures (8pm to 6am) starting 14 October 2024.

We'll also need an extra overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway (8pm to 6am) on Saturday 19 October.

We'll start work on the westbound carriageway on 21 October 2024.

We're monitoring traffic on the diversion route and working with local representatives to limit disruption for residents on the B1113. We apologise for the inconvenience our changes may cause.

    Diversion

Work starts on Monday 16 September 2024 for approximately 2 months

We’ll be doing essential maintenance work on the A14 between junction 52 (Claydon) and junction 55 (Copdock Interchange).

We understand how disruptive closures on this section of the A14 are to local residents but, repairs are needed to extend the life of the road surface to minimise the need for more extensive repairs in the future.

We now plan to start this work on Monday 16 September 2024 for approximately 2 months. Work will be carried out weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 between junctions 52 and 55. Closures will be in both directions, but not both at the same time. We will start work on the eastbound section first.

Ahead of work starting, we will be holding a free public information drop-in event on Wednesday 21 August between 4pm and 7pm at Tithe Barn, Lower Street, Sproughton, IP8 3AA. This event is your opportunity to ask members of the project team any questions about the project and its road closures.

    Diversions

While the A14 is closed eastbound, traffic will exit at junction 52 (Claydon), travel along the B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton, then along the A1071 and A1214 to rejoin the A14 at Copdock roundabout.

The Westbound diversion is the same in reverse.

See a map of the diversion route.
