To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 between junctions 52 (Claydon) and 55 (Copdock Interchange) one carriageway at a time, and divert traffic as follows:
Phase 1

- continue straight, merging onto the B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton.
- at the A1071/Swan Hill Roundabout, take the first exit onto A1071.
- at the traffic lights, turn right onto London Road (A1214).
- at the next roundabout, take the second exit to stay on the A1214.
- at the Copdock Roundabout, take the first exit to join the eastbound A14 at junction 55, where the diversion ends.
Traffic wanting to join the A14 eastbound carriageway from junctions 53 and 54 will need to travel westbound on the A14 and join the diversion at junction 52.
View the eastbound diversion map.

We have worked with Sproughton Parish Council to mitigate the impact of traffic passing through Sproughton village. To help manage traffic along the B1113, we will be putting the following measures in place:
Phase 1
The 7.5-tonne weight limit on the B1113 High Street will be temporarily lifted.
Temporary four-way traffic lights will be set up at the B1113 High Street crossroads with Lower Street and Burstall Lane.
Parking restrictions, marked with cones, will be in place at the B1113 High Street crossroads from Lower Street and Burstall Lane.
CCTV safety camera vans will be deployed along the B1113 diversion route to monitor traffic.
Paper Mill Lane will be closed for about 200 metres southbound, starting 500 metres south of the Bramford Road Roundabout (junction 52), to prevent large vehicles using this route.
Phase 2
Additional signs will be place on the B1113 at ‘The Beagle Roundabout’ to indicate the 7.5-tonne weight limit
CCTV safety camera vans will be deployed along the diversion route to monitor traffic.
Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our daily closures page or find live travel information on our Traffic England website. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.

The westbound carriageway work is now scheduled for completion by Friday 22 November. Following this, we will resume overnight closures of the eastbound carriageway for approximately three weeks on weeknights only, starting from Monday 25 November through to Saturday 14 December between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

Additional measures
Following feedback from residents, when full closures are required on the A14 eastbound carriageway, we will implement a road closure at Paper Mill Lane to prevent unsuitable vehicles using this as a cut through. Access to the Premier Inn will still be available.
We are committed to minimising disruption for residents along the diversion route and will continue monitoring traffic on the B1113. We are working closely with local representatives to address any concerns and implement mitigation measures where possible.

28 August 2024
Work starts on Monday 16 September 2024 for approximately 2 months
We’ll be doing essential maintenance work on the A14 between junction 52 (Claydon) and junction 55 (Copdock Interchange).
We understand how disruptive closures on this section of the A14 are to local residents but, repairs are needed to extend the life of the road surface to minimise the need for more extensive repairs in the future.
We now plan to start this work on Monday 16 September 2024 for approximately 2 months. Work will be carried out weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A14 between junctions 52 and 55. Closures will be in both directions, but not both at the same time. We will start work on the eastbound section first.
Ahead of work starting, we will be holding a free public information drop-in event on Wednesday 21 August between 4pm and 7pm at Tithe Barn, Lower Street, Sproughton, IP8 3AA. This event is your opportunity to ask members of the project team any questions about the project and its road closures.
Diversions
While the A14 is closed eastbound, traffic will exit at junction 52 (Claydon), travel along the B1113 through Bramford and Sproughton, then along the A1071 and A1214 to rejoin the A14 at Copdock roundabout.
The Westbound diversion is the same in reverse.
See a map of the diversion route.
