A120 Stanstead to Panners Interchange maintenance work
Our work includes replacing the safety barrier and road signs, resurfacing, repainting road markings, replacing road studs (cat's eyes) and other routine maintenance activities. This will make sure the A120 around Braintree remains in a safe and serviceable condition. We're doing the work in two phases. Phase 1 was completed during 2023. Phase 2 will be done during 2024.

Road markings work over summer
We’re refreshing the road markings on the A120 between Stansted and Panner’s Great Notley Interchange (near Braintree in Essex) between 24 June and 2 September 2024.
To work safely, we'll need to close the motorway and slip roads at various locations. Please remember that closure details can change at short notice. For the most up-to-date information on dates, times and locations, check our daily closures page.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Please don't follow your satnav during any closure and check your journey before you travel.
If you have any queries about this work, please contact us by email: info@nationalhighways.co.uk or call 0300 123 5000.

Project information
Overview
Work on the this stretch of the A120 road around Braintree in Essex includes replacing the safety barrier and road signs, resurfacing, road studs (cat's eyes), road lines and other safety improvements.
The work here is essential, as it will increase the life expectancy of the road and make journeys safer for motorists.
We’ll make the most of the road closures by carrying out as much work as possible. This will reduce the need for us to have more road closures in the near future.
We're doing the work in two phases. Phase 1 was completed during 2023. Phase 2 will be done during 2024.
Benefits
Road users will benefit from a new central reservation safety barrier from Panners interchange to Marks Farm as well as some new signs. There will also be a new road surface on the eastbound side from Panners to Galleys Corner with new road marking and studs to improve reflectivity and visibility.
