Cheshire Police are leading the response and are carrying out investigations on the M6 northbound between J21 and J21A near Warrington, requiring a full closure of the carriageway.
Cheshire Police notified National Highways at 02:52am requesting assistance with implementing full closures to create a safe working environment at the scene.
Our Traffic Officers have been establishing and maintaining the closure points throughout the night, and we have also been managing the controlled turning of traffic caught within the closure.
As we approach the morning period, the closure remains in place with no expected end time currently available. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
Diversion route
Road users are advised to follow the solid black square diversion symbol on road signs:
- Exit the M6 northbound at J21.
- At the roundabout exit onto the B5210 northbound and follow for approx. 2 miles.
- At the large roundabout with the A574 (Birchwood Way) exit onto the A574 eastbound and follow for approx. 2 miles.
- At the roundabout with the M62 J11, join the M62 westbound.
- Follow the M62 westbound and exit at J9.
- At the roundabout exit onto the A49 northbound.
- At the next roundabout exit onto the A49/A572 north.
- Re-join the M6 at J22.
