The A14 in Suffolk is closed eastbound between J47A (near Elmswell) and J49 (Tot Hill) following a multi-vehicle collision.

At around 04:15 this morning the A14 was closed in both directions following a serious collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and van to allow East Anglian Air Ambulance, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and East of England Ambulance Service to work at the scene.

The westbound carriageway re-opened at 05:15, the eastbound carriageway remains closed with Suffolk Constabulary conducting collision investigation works at scene.

National Highways area team crews have been dispatched to treat a spillage from the collision once police investigations are complete.

Diversion Route

Road users are advised to follow the 'Hollow Circle' diversion symbol on road signs

  • Exit the A14 at Junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds)
    ➝ Starting point.

  • Follow the A143 westbound for approx. 13 miles (21 km)
    ➝ From Bury St Edmunds to the junction with the A140, near Wortham.

  • Turn onto the A140 northbound and continue for approx. 12 miles (19 km)
    ➝ Heading north through Dickleburgh and Scole, toward Stowmarket.

  • Rejoin the A14 at Junction 49 (Tot Hill)
    ➝ Near Stowmarket / Tot Hill Services.
