Although our smart motorway work has been cancelled following the Government’s latest announcement, we’re continuing to improve safety between junctions 9 and 14 by upgrading the barrier in the central reservation from metal to concrete.

A key route linking the East of England with the rest of the country will benefit from a new scheme which will make the road safer for road users and those living nearby.

Major safety improvements will get under way on the M1 in West Yorkshire in March, with a 10-mile stretch of central barrier being upgraded.
