The Lower Thames Crossing Skills Hub offers free training to help local people develop new skills, gain industry-recognised qualifications and explore opportunities in construction and infrastructure.

Delivered with employers, training providers and local partners, our courses combine practical learning with support and guidance to help you take your next step.

No previous construction experience is needed.

The Skills Hub runs regular courses throughout the year, offering a range of training opportunities for people at different stages of their career journey.

What will I gain from the course?

Course content varies depending on the theme, but may include: 

  • Practical, hands-on training
  • Industry-recognised qualifications
  • Level 1 Health and safety training and Green CSCS card
  • Site visits and insight into major infrastructure projects
  • An introduction to careers across the construction and infrastructure
  • Sustainability skills and modern methods of construction
  • Employability and career support 

Training is developed with employers and industry partners to help ensure learners gain relevant skills and experience.

The Skills Hub is open to people from a wide range of backgrounds, including: 

  • People seeking employment
  • College leavers and young people exploring career options
  • Those looking for a career change
  • People returning to work
  • Anyone interested in learning more about construction and infrastructure 

You don't need to know exactly what job you want to do. The Skills Hub can help you build confidence, develop new skills and explore the wide range of careers available across construction and infrastructure. 

Where could it lead? 

Construction offers a wide variety of career opportunities, from site-based and technical roles to engineering, environmental, digital and professional careers. 

Completing a Skills Hub course does not guarantee employment, but it can help you gain valuable skills and qualifications, understand the opportunities available and prepare for your next step.

How does the Skills Hub work?

Our Skills Hubs bring together local employers, colleges, training providers, charities and community organisations to help people develop new skills and access employment opportunities. 

Working with local partners, we offer free training, careers support and industry insight to help people take their next step, whether that's entering the construction industry, changing careers or building new skills for the future.

We know that everyone's circumstances are different. 

That's why we work with local partners and specialist organisations to provide additional support where possible, helping people overcome barriers to training, employment and skills development. 

All support provided through the Skills Hub is free to participants. 

Our Skills Hubs also support local employers and the wider construction supply chain to develop the skills they need for the future. 

We work with employers to identify training needs and connect people with opportunities to gain industry-recognised qualifications, develop new skills and build successful careers. 

Training opportunities available through the Skills Hub are provided free of charge, helping employers invest in their workforce and build the skills needed to support future growth.

The first Lower Thames Crossing Skills Hub opened in Gravesham in October 2025. 

The free Skills Hub supports local people to access skills, training and employment opportunities, while helping employers develop the workforce needed for future construction and infrastructure projects. 

As the project moves towards construction, we plan to develop additional Skills Hubs across the project area to create more opportunities for local communities and businesses.
