Hospital patients receive eggs-ellent gift from National Highways’ M27 project team

With a hop and a skip, the Easter bunny had some help from National Highways to bring joy to patients and staff at University Hospital Southampton.

What started as an idea to raise enough eggs for the children’s ward resulted in 1,200 patients being given an egg for Easter – plus an impressive donation to the hospital’s Patient and Family Support Hub.

Matt Jones who organised the fundraiser is a contracts manager for CR Civil Engineering Ltd, part of the supply chain currently working on the M27 junction 5 to 7 concrete overlay scheme.

He said: “I never imagined that a simple idea to fill a skip with Easter eggs would turn into something so impactful. The generosity from our team, clients and supply chain was incredible, knowing we were able to bring a smile to every child at Southampton General Hospital was truly overwhelming.

“Speaking with the nurses, we learned more about the amazing work being done through the hospital’s support hub. Their compassion and dedication really struck a chord with us - it inspired us to push even harder to reach £10,000 in donations.

He added: “It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever been a part of."

Sarah Reid, Managing Director – Water & Highways, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, said: “This is fantastic and really shows how closely we work with our supply chain. Being able to give back and make a difference in the local community means a lot. It’s something we genuinely care about."
