What is the project?

The railway bridge in Alnwick makes up part of the portfolio of 3,100 structures maintained by the Historical Railways Estate (HRE) team and has now been transferred to Northumberland County Council. 

National Highways provided £130,000 with the council allocating £125,000 to fund works that will bring the bridge up to the standard required to allow it to be adopted. 

Planned work is expected to include the installation of a waterproof deck, repointing and repair work to the bridge arch.

“We are pleased to have been able to make a big contribution to the restoration of Eden Hill Bridge. Further planned works will help ensure the structure is brought up to an appropriate standard.

“Our work on this structure means options are available for future uses in and around the bridge and we are happy to have played our part.”
