Barrier work complete
The new safety barrier is now complete on the M2 Medway Bridge, and following safety checks, we’ve reopened the foot and cycle path.
There’s still some minor work we need to carry out to finish our improvements so you may still notice us working on and around the bridge.
We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we made these essential safety improvements on the bridge.

Progress update - 10 January
Work has now started to install the new barrier following a delay due to technical difficulties. Once installed we’ll need to complete safety checks before we can reopen the footpath – which we currently anticipate to be in early spring.
As the original barrier has been removed, we’re unable to reopen the footpath until the new one is fully installed and checked. Please be assured we’re working to get the new barrier in place and the footpath open as soon as possible.
We’ll continue to provide the shuttle bus service until our work at the bridge is finished.
We understand that the current footpath closure is frustrating and would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their patience while we work to deliver these essential safety improvements to the M2 Medway Bridge.
Shuttle bus service
There is a temporary shuttle bus service to take you across the bridge during the closure. This runs between 6am and 7.30pm each day.
The bus leaves from Wouldham Road on the south side of the bridge, every hour, on the hour. The first bus is at 6am, and the last one at 7pm.
It then runs every hour, on the half hour, from Sundridge Hill on the north side of the bridge. The first bus leaves here at 6.30am, with the last bus at 7.30pm.
If you would like to take an alternative route to cross the river, or it’s outside of these hours, the A2 bridge remains open usual.
*Please note this service is subject to change
