Welcome to the latest edition of our community video newsletter – a short film designed to keep you up to speed with the latest project news and progress.

We're holding a series of events at community halls and shopping centres in February and March, giving you the chance to chat with our team.
We will be providing information on the progress we made in 2023 and our plans for 2024.

Our planning application

Our planning application

At the end of December, the six-month examination of our plans ended.

The Examining Authority now has three months to submit a recommendation report to the Secretary of State for Transport. A final decision is expected in June.

An update on our delivery partners

An update on our delivery partners

Now that Bouygues Murphy Joint Venture have been awarded the tunnel and approaches contract, which includes the UKs longest road tunnels, this marks the completion of the Lower Thames Crossing delivery team.

Balfour Beatty and Skanska were awarded the roads contracts last year, for roads North and South of the River Thames.

Green light for new community facilities at Hole Farm community woodland

Forestry England announced that planning permission has been given the green light for new community facilities at Hole Farm community woodland in Brentwood, Essex.

The 100-hectare site is being developed as part of the Lower Thames Crossing project and will become home to around 150,000 new trees.

How we're investing in communities

We continue to deliver an ambitious programme of wider investment in local communities.

Projects we’ve invested in so far across Kent and Essex include Shorne Woods Country Park, Vineyards Farm, Warley Place, Dagnam Park and Chafford Gorges Nature Discovery Park.

Dartford Crossing's 60th Birthday

The Dartford Crossing turned 60 years old in November. Designed for a different time, the only road crossing east of London was a feat of engineering that has played a vital role connecting Kent and Essex with over one billion journeys made since it opened in 1963.
