Overnight weekday closures starting in October

We’re installing a new noise barrier on the A1 near Eaton Ford, near St Neots in Cambridgeshire. This will reduce noise from A1 traffic reaching local properties, especially along Monarch Road and Duchess Close.

We plan to begin work on Monday 28 October 2024 and complete it by early April 2025. We will work between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

While most of our work will be carried out within the grass verge beside the A1, we will need to close the southbound carriageway to ensure our workers have enough space to carry out their work safely. We will therefore close the A1 southbound from the B654 to Wyboston each night from Monday to Friday until the scheme is completed.

    Closures and diversions

While the A1 southbound is closed:

    • leave the A1 via the A14 at junction 22
    • proceed east along the A14
    • then exit at junction 23 onto the A1198
    • proceed south along the A1198 to join the A428 at the Caxton Gibbet Roundabout
    • then proceed west to rejoin the A1 at Wyboston

    A1 noise barrier at Eaton Ford - 28 October 2024 - March 2025

We’re installing a new noise barrier on the A1 near Eaton Ford, near St Neots in Cambridgeshire. This will reduce noise from A1 traffic reaching local properties, especially along Monarch Road and Duchess Close.

We've listened to concerns about the new barrier obstructing views of the countryside, and we will be installing a transparent Perspex barrier in some sections.

    Upcoming closures and diversions

Work will begin on Monday 28 October 2024 and is expected to finish in March 2025. Most of our work will be done on the grass beside the road and should not need immediate road closures or reduced speed limits.

We do expect to have some overnight closures (9pm to 6am) on weeknights on the A1 southbound as our work progresses. We will share updates about these closures in due time.
