Minecraft workshops success at local schools

Getting young people engaged with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) means we can help bring careers in infrastructure to life. We show how these STEM subjects are used in the planning and delivery of exciting projects such as the A428 to children of different ages.

In the game, students can also creatively design and build areas of the scheme by answering a set of expert questions helping them understand what goes into a road scheme. They can also learn about how noise is mitigated in the building of a new road and get the chance to balance a scheme budget with the most effective sound barriers. Students then make notes of their learning in their digital workbook.

One teacher from a local school said:

"The children absolutely loved it and we have had so many positive comments about the sessions. Some parents even came in to say their children wouldn't stop talking about it after school!"

The package is aligned to the National Curriculum and available to all teachers and schools, the only requirement is that you have access to Microsoft Education Centre.

It’s a great way for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students to learn more about biology, ecology, coding and building roads. We hope to inspire the next generation of tech experts, engineers, scientists and mathematicians.
