We have significantly improved the Dart Charge service since we encountered issues following the switch to new suppliers in the summer of 2023.  

Today, the BBC carries claims about the actions of enforcement agents over Dart Charge fines people say were issued in error. 

At National Highways, our priority is providing a smooth and stress-free experience for our customers who make the 55 million journeys on the Dartford Crossing each year.  

Yesterday The Sunday Telegraph reported on National Highways’ actions to help support drivers exit emergency areas (EA) on smart motorways.

Response to media coverage on 14 August 2023 

At the weekend, an article in the Sunday Telegraph quoted a National Highways ‘whistleblower’ with claims broken CCTV cameras can ‘leave National Highways staff struggling to get “eyes and ears” on life and death emergencies’.
