Repairs to M180 bridge in North Lincolnshire get under way after lorry strike

Drivers in North Lincolnshire are advised of repairs to a bridge over the M180 following damage to the structure from an earlier lorry strike.

Drivers in North Lincolnshire are advised of repairs to a bridge over the M180 following damage to the structure from an earlier lorry strike.

A series of full and lane closures will be in place between junctions 2 (Woodhouse) and 3 (Midmoor) while the repairs are carried out at Mutton Bridge near Outmill from Monday 15 January.

National Highways Project Manager John Stebbing said:

“As our investigations uncovered substantial damage and asbestos, we needed to take some time to design, check and approve the engineering solutions to remove the surfacing and repair the bridge.

“As a result, we will be carrying out concrete repairs, beam and parapet replacements, installing new bridge joints, waterproofing, and resurfacing on the bridge deck.”

Closures and diversions

To carry out this work safely there will be a full closure of Derrythorpe Road, the road carried by Mutton Bridge, between 15 January and 28 June.

The lane 1 closure of the M180 westbound, which is currently in place between the River Trent bridge and the Mutton Lane overbridge, will also remain for the duration of repairs to protect the area of the bridge from any further strikes.

There will then be a combination of weekend and overnight full closures of the M180 westbound and eastbound carriageways, subject to weather conditions. All overnight closures will take place between 8pm and 6am.
