Safety campaign emails - privacy notice
This privacy notice sits beneath our top level privacy notice and provides information about how personal data is used with regards to National Highways’ safety campaign emails.

What personal data do we collect and handle?
We may collect the following information:
- your email address
- your name
- your age (optional)
- your gender (optional)
- details of whether you drive (optional)
- details of whether you have a disability (optional)
- details of the area where you live (optional)
We will only ask for customers’ age, gender, location and whether they have a disability for campaign targeting purposes.
What do we use the data for?
We will send regular safety information based on our campaigns.
We will use the data to send more targeted emails based on the information you provide, for example, younger drivers may be emailed more age-appropriate content.
How long will we keep the data?
We will keep customer data until the customer chooses to opt out. If a customer opts out of receiving our emails, their data will be removed from our database. An opt out link will be situated at the foot of every email we send,.
Where will the data be stored?
Contact details will be stored on GovDelivery.
GovDelivery acts as a digital communications platform providing email marketing campaigns, newsletters, alerts and more.
What legally allows us to collect and handle information about you?
For using existing mailing lists in the company to make initial contact with people – Article 6.1(e) - processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
For continuing to issue the safety bulletins to interested parties - Article 6.1(a) - the data subject has given consent to the processing of his or her personal data for one or more specific purposes.
Who do we share your data with?
Data will be shared internally at National Highways as collective data (non-individual/personally identifiable data). In some cases, data will be shared with a third party to analyse and understand the information, data shared will be non-individual/not personally identifiable. In these circumstances, we remain responsible for your data and will ensure that the correct measures and safeguards are in place to protect your data.
