Network claims - privacy notice
This privacy notice sits beneath our top level privacy notice and provides information about how personal data is used in relation to network claims.
What personal data do we collect and handle?
Information we may collect includes:
- full address (including postcode)
- email address
- contact phone number
- car details, including registration number (the VRM)
- bank details (if a claim is to be paid)
Please note that the information we process on you will always be proportionate and only used in support for the purpose specified.
Where do we get the data from?
The person making the claim, or a third party acting on their behalf.
What do we use the data for?
To investigate the claim in its entirety so National Highways can make a decision and make any payments as necessary.
How long will we keep the data?
The data is kept for 10 years after there has been a decision made on the claim and the claim has been closed.
Where will the data be stored?
It's stored securely on either our Claims Management System (from December 2023) or SHARE (if the claim was made before December 2023) – SHARE is the National Highways electronic records management system.
What legally allows us to collect and handle information about you?
Highways Act 1980.
Who do we share your data with?
- National Highways for its own purposes, including our legal team
- Formally appointed agents and professional advisors to investigate the incident
- Government Legal Department
What rights do you have?
You have the right to:
- be informed as to what we're using your personal data for
- access your personal data
- rectify your personal data
- restrict our processing of your personal data
- erasure
