The Highways England Contracts pipeline sets out our purchasing intentions and approach over the period of the second Road Investment Strategy (RIS) 2020 – 2025.
The Contracts pipeline datasheet shows the stages of procurements and will be updated regularly. It includes details of planned, current and completed activity.
Our Customer Service Strategy remains at the core of what and how we deliver, and this is driven by customer insight.
To support our vision for the network, we have established a set of principles for good road design which follow the themes of people, places and processes. These will encourage better design and provide the basis for road schemes to be objectively reviewed.
Moving from road period one (2015-2020) to road period 2 (2020-2025), the Strategic Design Panel reviewed the design of complex and sensitive schemes and made recommendations to Highways England based on these reviews. It has also considered and made recommendations on the importance of corridor design, climate change and biodiversity and monitored actions from previous recommendations.
Over the past year, the Strategic Design Panel has applied its advisory powers to provide advice on standards and processes, and embedding Highways England’s design vision and principles. It has also considered and made recommendations on the importance of green infrastructure and quality in construction, and overseen the design review of complex and sensitive schemes.
The Strategic Design Panel was set up to challenge and support Highways England to make a step change in the design quality of England’s Strategic Road Network. This coincides with the delivery of the biggest programme of Government investment in a generation
