A14 junctions 38 - 42 maintenance works

Closures and diversions

Due to recent record high temperatures, road surfaces sometimes take longer to cool and cure.

With cooler temperatures now forecast, we'll return to complete our work on the A14 between Kentford and Bury St Edmunds.

Wednesday 29 July and Thursday 30 July - A14 eastbound between junctions 38 (Waterhall Interchange) and 41 (Risby Interchange) 

Closed overnight (9pm to 5am)

Diversion

If you're travelling eastbound on the A14 by junction 38, follow the signed diversion onto the A11 northbound:

• stay on the A11 to the London Road / Thetford Bypass roundabout
• use the roundabout to turn around and re-join the A11 southbound
• at the end of the Elveden Bypass, leave the A11 and merge onto London Road
• turn left onto Elveden Road and continue to the A134
• turn right onto the A134 and continue south
• at the third roundabout, take the third exit onto Compiegne Way (A134)
• continue on Compiegne Way to A14 junction 43, St Saviours Interchange 
• from there,  re-join the A14 eastbound and continue its journey

Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August - A14 westbound between junctions 43 and 38 overnight weekend closures

Closed overnight (9pm to 5am) each night.

Diversion

If you’re travelling westbound on the A14:

• you’ll be diverted off at junction 43
• then join the A134
• continue on Bury Road and Thetford Bypass
• then join A11, and re-join the A14 at junction 38.

Background

The A14 is a vital route connecting Felixstowe port to the North, Midlands and East of England, carrying local, regional and international traffic.

While we know closures are disruptive, this essential maintenance will extend the life of the road and reduce the need for more significant works in the future.
