Planned closures begin on 30 September
We’re starting by resurfacing the A1 northbound and renewing road markings between Wansford (A47 junction) and Wothorpe near Stamford.
The work will be delivered in phases and we're coordinating our programme with other planned works on the A1.
We'll keep customers and stakeholders updated as the work progresses and provide advance notice of any significant changes to the programme or traffic management arrangements.
Closures and diversions
30 September until mid December - A1 northbound between Wansford and Wothorpe
Closed overnight Monday to Friday (8pm-6am).
A fully signed diversion route will be in place and emergency vehicles will have access.
Northbound traffic will be diverted by:
- the A47 westbound
- then at Duddington Roundabout onto the A43 northbound
- before re-joining the A1 at Wothorpe near Stamford

Overview
The A1 northbound between Wansford and Wothorpe carries significant volumes of traffic on the Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire border.
It's a critical freight corridor linking the rest of the country to the port of Felixstowe - one of the UK's busiest container ports.
Keeping this route open, reliable and well-maintained directly supports economic activity and the supply chains that businesses and consumers depend on every day.
The work will include:
- resurfacing
- new road markings
- new traffic signal loops
- road studs
- and installing new road signs
The work will be delivered in phases, and we're co-ordinating our programme with other planned works on the A1.
This may affect the sequencing of some later phases.
