A1 Brampton Hut Roundabout maintenance

Work has started

Our first phase of overnight work runs from Monday 28 September, and we’re working Mondays to Fridays from 9.30pm to 5am on the exit slip road and services entry road. 

Lane closure

For our safety and yours, we'll close one lane on Brampton Hut Roundabout during the day throughout our work.

Road closures

For safety, we'll need the following overnight road closures:

Monday 28 September to mid-November - A1 northbound exit slip and entry road into services

Closed overnight (9.30pm - 5am) Monday to Friday. The exit from the services will remain open.

Diversion

• continue north and exit the A1 at Alconbury (B1043)
• re-join the A1 southbound to exit at Brampton Hut Interchange

Monday 28 September to mid-November - A141 eastbound link between A14 junction 21 and Brampton Hut Roundabout

Closed overnight (9.30pm - 5am) Monday to Friday.

Diversion:

• join the A14 westbound at junction 21
• travel west to junction 16 (Catworth Interchange) and re-join the A14 eastbound
• travel east on A14 towards junction 23 (Ermine St Interchange)
• exit and return westbound
• at A14 junction 22 join the A1 northbound and exit the A1 at Alconbury (B1043)
• re-join the A1 southbound to exit at Brampton Hut Interchange.

Please note that there will be no emergency vehicle access during the work.

Background

Around 40,000 vehicles a day use this route and around 26% are heavy good vehicles, making it a critical national freight route.

We're upgrading the kerbs for this roundabout to better cope with these large vehicles, and cope with heavy rainfall.

Our work will help surface water drain away more effectively and reduce the risk of flooding.

The work is being delivered in phases, and we’ll be: 

• strengthening drainage kerbs
• resurfacing the road
• replacing road markings
• installing new traffic signal sensors.
