A616 weekend closures
We’re carrying out drainage improvements on the A616 between Mortimer Road at Midhopstones and Midhope Cliff Lane at Langsett.
We’re installing five new drainage pipes across the carriageway to reduce the risk of flooding in the future to provide drivers with safer and more reliable journeys.
We’re starting work on Monday 15 March and aim to finish by Monday 12 April, weather and circumstances permitting.
To carry out this work safely and quickly we’ll use 24/7 temporary lights.
For the cross carriageway work we’ll need to close this section of the A616 for potentially three weekends:
- Friday 19 March to Monday 22 March
- Friday 26 March to Monday 29 March
- Friday 9 April to Monday 12 April (contingency)
There will also be overnight closures at the start of the scheme to set up the traffic lights and safety barriers and to carry out some preparation work. At the end of the scheme we’ll have overnight closures for resurfacing and to remove the traffic lights and safety barriers.
The A616 will be closed to through traffic from the A628 Flouch roundabout to Fox Valley roundabout, but access will be maintained for A616 residents and businesses within the closure.
Unfortunately, during the closures there won’t be safe access between Midhopestones and Langsett on the A616 because the work we’re doing spans the whole carriageway, diversion routes will be in place that will add around ten minutes to your journey.
Some of the work may also be noisy and we apologise in advance for any disruption the noise or delays may cause.
