A local beauty spot will be a riot of colour in the spring thanks to the efforts of a volunteer task force on the A1 Scotswood to North Brunton upgrade.

Bluebell Dene is a local beauty spot in Newbiggin Hall with a footpath that connects a housing estate with the Metro station and the surrounding areas of Bank Foot and Kingston Park.

Sadly, over recent years many of the bluebells and other spring flowers have died back and the area had become untidy and subject to anti-social behaviour.

Woolsington Parish Council set up a project to restore Bluebell Dene to its original beauty and our construction partners Costain Jacobs leapt at the opportunity to help

They supplied 5,100 daffodil bulbs and provided 13 volunteers to work alongside parish councillors and the Lord Mayor of Newcastle on a day of planting.

And their efforts did not go unnoticed, Councillor Joanne Couchman said:

“The Parish Council would like to say a huge thank you to Costain Jacobs for their support of the parish restoration project in Bluebell Dene.

“They are really good people and fun to work with, and helped turn a gruelling task into a special occasion.”
