New online information portal shows final design

Updated plans for the revamp of major M3 junction

Updated plans for the M3 junction 9 improvement scheme near Winchester are available to access through a new online information portal.

The portal, which explains changes to the final designs and a proposed timeline for the future, was launched in September 2022.

The plans have been updated following feedback received during the last consultation and take into account a number of key environmental and design changes.

Work is expected to start in late 2024/early 2025 with works completed by 2027.

In addition to an online portal, public information events will be held and offers members of the public the chance to meet the project team who will be able to talk through the plans and answer questions.

National Highways will be visiting Tesco Extra, Easton Lane, Winchester SO23 7RS on:

  • Sunday 25 September, 10am to 4pm
  • Monday 26 September, 10am to 4pm

All consultation activity has ended and the designs now represent the version that will be submitted for a Development Consent Order (DCO) by winter 2022.

National Highways Senior Project Manager, Jon Roose, said:

"Our plans for the M3 at junction 9 will increase capacity, help reduce journey times and improve safety. I would urge anyone interested in the scheme to visit our online portal to find out more about the proposals and how the project team has developed the designs, responding to feedback we received at the 2021 consultation."
