We are carrying out resurfacing works on the A47 westbound between junction 15/Nene Parkway and Sutton roundabout, including the westbound entry slip at junction 15, the westbound exit slip to Love’s Hill, and the junction at Sutton Heath Road.

Closures for survey work, 21 to 24 November 2023

We will be carrying out essential survey work to assess the condition of the A47 between Upton Road in Sutton and junction 15.

We'll be working for 4 nights between 8pm and 6am from Tuesday 21 to Friday 24 November 2023, weather conditions permitting.

Road closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A47 eastbound between Sutton and junction 15.

Whilst the A47 is closed, traffic will be diverted from Wansford southbound on the A1 towards Chesterton, then the A1139 (Fletton Parkway), and A1260 (Nene Parkway) before re-joining the A47 at junction 15 (Thomas Cook Roundabout).

October updated road closures

We’re progressing with remaining activities as part of the work to resurface the A47 westbound between junction 15/Nene Parkway and Sutton roundabout, as well as other maintenance activities.

As part of this work, we have remaining work to complete on the A47 westbound, Sutton roundabout and Sutton Heath Road. Work will continue to be weeknights only, with working hours of 8pm to 6am. Work is due to finish Friday 3 November, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

Whilst the road is closed, westbound traffic will be diverted via Nene Parkway (A1260), Fletton Parkway (A1139) and A1 northbound, to re-join the A47 at Wansford. Eastbound traffic will follow the same diversion in reverse.

Local access arrangements

As the A47 and Sutton Roundabout is closed during some of these works, vehicles accessing Sutton, Castor, Ailsworth and Upton will need to follow the below instructions.

Please approach our secure traffic gates located at the following locations, with proof of your address, to gain escorted entry to the local area:

A47 Wansford roundabout eastbound – to gain entry via The Drift, Sutton
A47 junction 15/Nene Parkway entry slip – to gain entry via Loves Hill

Alternatively, you can use an unescorted access via the Helpston Road overpass into Ailsworth.

Upton

Please approach our secure traffic gate at A47 Wansford roundabout eastbound, to gain entry via Sutton Heath Road.

Road closures during September 2023

Work began in July to resurface the A47 westbound between junction 15/Nene Parkway and Sutton roundabout, as well as other maintenance activities.

As part of this scheme, we need to test some electrical equipment near Sutton roundabout, which will require some localised closures. By undertaking this testing now, we will be able to programme any future maintenance activities required towards the end of this scheme.

We had hoped that during August we'd be able to do the electrical work required as part of the current project to resurface the A47 westbound between junction 15/Nene Parkway and Sutton roundabout, as well as other maintenance activities.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to start this work, and we have now rescheduled it to start on Monday 18 September.

The work will take 3 nights, and we’ll be working overnight from 8pm to 6am. Roadworks will still be in place at all other times.

Project information

Work will start Monday 24 July, lasting approximately 15 weeks, working weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am, weather conditions permitting. During the day, traffic will run on a temporary road surface and a 50mph speed limit in place for safety reasons.

As part of this, we will also use this opportunity to undertake other maintenance activities, such as installing fresh road markings, as well as replacement of a bridge plug joint, lamps columns, gully grates and frames, safety signage and a set of traffic loops.
