Work starts 1 July 2026
We'll begin work on Wednesday 1 July, with the initial work taking around three weeks.
We'll be working overnight between 8pm and 6am on Mondays to Fridays, subject to weather conditions.
To work safely, we'll need full road closures on the following dates:
- 1 July to 9 July - A414 - eastbound carriageway
- 9 July to 17 July - A414 - westbound carriageway
Emergency vehicles will have access through the roadworks.
Diversions
Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted via a signed route using local roads, including:
- the M1
- A41 and North Orbital Road
- before rejoining the A414
Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place.

Project information
Overview
We’re doing lighting and road marking improvement works on the A414 Park Street Roundabout and the M1 to improve visibility and overall road safety.
We'll also remove several redundant light columns, and replace existing lighting equipment and cabling on the slip-roads.
Benefits
As part of our effort to reduce carbon emissions from roadside lighting, we’ll be replacing high pressure sodium lights (SON) on the A414 with LED lights.
To find out more about LED lights, visit our LED lights page.
